    Pros

Excellent benefits, a lot of opportunity for training and professional growth. IDEXX has been very supportive of me as a working parent, and I have been very happy here. I really like my role and my manager has been very supportive and encouraging.

    Cons

Not everyone can succeed here--it is very fast-paced and a lot like a start-up (even though the comany is 1B+). You have to be okay with change and working with changing priorities.

    Advice to Management

I have very happy with the new company program where employees will be able to volunteer in the community--this was a great to implement because I think that volunteering is really important. I'd say that it is important to continue to train employees and invest in more supervisory training--my manager is great, but strong s upervisors make a great company even better.

Profitable. Growing. Hi energy. Unlimited potential. They recognize talent. Good pay.

    Cons

You are on your own for career development. No tuition reimbursement. Little training available. No conferences. Inconsistencies in how employees are valued and treated from one department to the next.

    Advice to Management

Implement a good tuition reimbursement program. Make money available for employee training and development.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I feel well-respected and supported, that I can truly make a difference, and that I am trusted to do it here and do it well.
It is a growing company, I see nothing but opportunity for advancement and it's great to be able to see my career path for the next few years.
I love the fast pace, the bias for action, and working for a company that is not afraid to spend money.
Single stream recycling, paperless office, and a new LEEDs certified building show that IDEXX supports the environment
2 paid days off a year for volunteering.
Very involved CIO with great vision.

    Cons

Hours can sometimes be long, but time flies by quickly because I love what I am doing! Processes are still not very mature - feels like a start up at times, but that can be energizing.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent co-workers and management. I appreciated that they allowed me to cross-train in all departments so I would remain challenged. I worked there for over 17 years and loved it! If you work hard and are dependable, you WILL be rewarded. I feel that this employer treated me very well.

    Cons

I preferred United Healthcare over Aetna.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! They know what is going on in the day-to-day operations and their input can be very valuable. Go back to giving out 2X awards-It's important to recognize those employees who are going above and beyond every day!

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a slew of creative & highly technical jobs within IDEXX, with ample room for advancement. The company is successful, lending towards secure, long-term careers. And the sense of competitiveness and culture of innovation means that there's a good chance you can work on something fun and rewarding!

    Cons

Performance expectations and resource constraints can make many departments within IDEXX stressful to work for or with (especially IT). The relatively limited talent pool of Southern Maine means that you'll also have to deal with the occasional weak link, forcing you to make up the slack or lower the quality of work produced.

    Advice to Management

Focus on core products. While pushing for innovation, it's also important to allow for breathing room to improve current products. Beauty and polish are important, but often overlooked in the race to check-off the next feature.

    Pros

    Great work environment.
Nice buildings and grounds. Employees really seem to take ownership in our building.
    Personal Growth Leave
GiVE - The global volunteer program

    Cons

IDEXX is going through some growing pains. We are still in a small company mindset and need to change our focus to move into the big company world we want to be in.

    Advice to Management

You are doing a lot of the right things. Don't lose sight of them when you are trying to change and address the issues that do need to be fixed
