I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The reason to work there is that the pay and benefits are excellent. Many of the people that I worked with were compassionate individuals and I counted them as friends. When we got to interact with the pathologists, we were able to learn a lot. Despite the (in-)access to training, there's a lot of opportunities to improve towards a management position.

    Cons

The work is assembly-line: it will eventually get monotonous.
The management is HORRIBLE at dealing with conflicts, and don't listen or act on any of the feedback of the technicians. Communication is very poor overall.
When there's trouble, rather than resolving it directly, the managers will unilaterally change the floor rules and take away everyone's in-lab privileges like listening to music or having conversations with each other.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers. Take them seriously. Be willing to fire problematic members of the team.

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Helping animals, interesting cases, nice techs to work with, techs help you, bench supervisor is bad. Seems like benefits were good. Somewhat organized work flow.

    Cons

Management /supervisor/ bench supervisor all need management classes . HR is only for the long term employee. Suggest they get outside HR to take of massive problems with techs that have worked there a long time. The run the show.

    Advice to Management

Respect of employees would be nice. Don't manipulate people to be what you want.

PTO is excellent! Management is accessible if there are issues to discuss.

    Cons

Often too much pressure to meet TAT, especially difficult when people are taking PTO.

I have been working at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company for veterinary industry - too bad they don't treat their employees as well as customers. CEO more concerned with Mad Money appearances these days. With turnover from most senior management a few years ago, the downward spiral for the employee began.

    Cons

RAMPANT favoritism. Supervisors need supervision . Forget trying to get ahead unless you're a "pet". Supervisors will also lie because they know they can get away with it; upper management doesn't care. Micromanaging like you would not believe; be ready to explain every minute of your day and make sure you put in that lunch break you never had to protect corporate. Name of the supervisor game is "how to not pay an employee". Multiple lines of business basically just dumps everything they can on field employees. Pay looks great when coming in as a technician from a clinic but they exploit a technician's work ethic as much as possible. Techs feel obligated since they aren't used to slightly higher pay. Nobody will speak up out of fear of being labeled "negative". If you like essentially being owned by sales team - this is the place for your. Forget a social life, and make sure you realize IDEXX comes before your first born. Bonus structure changed dramatically so pay has dropped. In general, my gross income has gone down every year over 3 years. Regretting not leaving then!

Also - seems like half the company is sleeping with the other half. I guess nobody has a life to find a partner outside work.

Someone else reviewed "people who left are unhappy, those still here love it" -- spoken like a true kool aid drinker that much be on the favorites list.

    Advice to Management

READ THESE REVIEWS. Simple rule - when employees are happy to come to work they are happy doing their job and customers will in turn be happy. STOP KILLING MORALE AND LOSING GOOD PEOPLE. Shouldn't more work mean MORE PAY?

I worked at IDEXX Laboratories full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, free coffee, parking, glass cube

    Cons

Constant lay-offs, people live in constant worry about losing jobs, almost the entire R&D department got let go (about 10 employees) due to human side of business not do well at the Roswell, Georgia facility. About 50 employees got let go over the last few years. Long term employees with great pay got let go and replaced with college graduates making little money.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be up front up and honest.

    Pros

Interesting work. Great team. Leadership who really care about the mission. Feels very connected to the strategy. Working with some of the most current software and cloud based tools in the industry.

    Cons

A very full plate of work, and sometimes priorities change quickly. You have to be prepared for the pace, or it can be unsettling.
