    Pros

Good salary and benefits, overtime is not expected

    Cons

Upper management does not take poor performance seriously, union protects poor employees, subordinates are paid more than their supervisors

    Advice to Management

Upper management constantly dismisses any matters regarding poor performance and advice to not pursue any further in fear of getting the union involved. Also, most of the employees that may end up under a supervisor are getting paid...

I have been working at IDOT full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

-Teamsters health insurance (at this time) is FREE... far better than any of the plans offered through the state -Generous pay and time-off schedule (would also be a "Con" from the perspective of the taxpayer)

    Cons

-Unless you are a Civil Engineer, there is little to no opportunity for advancement (unless politically connected or anatomically attached to supervisor) -Pervasive environment of back-stabbing, gossiping, incompetent management (Engineers, who are incapable of handling personnel affairs, are in positions of authority) -Petty, insecure Engineers wield power as though they are either miniature dictators or spineless...

    Advice to Management

IDOT needs to be gutted and re-booted with a model that encourages transparency in fiscal and personnel hiring responsibilities.
