I worked at IDP Education full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked with some extremely talented colleagues who understood the power of globalized education. Base pay was sufficient. International travel was a high-lite as well.

    Cons

Destination teams were always blamed for the short-comings of the source countries. Bonus plans changed mid year. Work/Life balance needs improvement.

    Advice to Management

Support employees, keep bonus plans consistent,

I worked at IDP Education full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generous benefits and compensation. The ability to travel domestically, international travel after some time with the company.

    Cons

Small US-based team in which you must work remotely. Poor onboarding and training for new employees. Absolutely no commitment to diversity and inclusion, this is a great place to work if you are a straight white man. Senior Management manages with fear, intimidation, and definitely a tendency to have favorites. No real mobility to move in the US division.

    Advice to Management

    Improve employee-manager relationships.

I have been working at IDP Education full-time

    Pros

An international company that in theory could provide a lot of movement opportunities for an employee

Fairly stable future as it is one of the owners of the IELTS test

    Cons

As it is a large organization you can easily get lost in the structure. Many employees are simply considered cogs in the machine. The software that they have developed to "advise" students has done away with many of the soft skills that are needed when counseling students. IDP has become the McDonalds of Student Placement

    Advice to Management

Upper Management has very little clue about the Education industry. They are sales driven as opposed to trying to cater to the needs and wishes of the students they supposedly serve.

I have been working at IDP Education full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Its a motivating environment because most people (not all, but most) are passionate, smart and engaging people. My team is a group of over achievers who are really adaptable and ready to take on the next challenge. IDP is a very well respected brand and in general, the international education sector is vibrant and fun to work with. Its nice to know that we work for a company that helps people achieve their life long goals.

    Cons

Unless you are working on a project, the teams work in silos, so it's really difficult to get to know other colleagues in other teams and work across units. There are no social events or ways for colleagues in different teams to mingle (lunches and morning teas are not very useful, as everyone tends to stick in their own groups and want to return to their desk as soon as possible). There needs to be more gender diversity (especially on the board). Communications are lacking - nothing is clear and difficult to know what's going on - this makes for rumors and gossip to take over.

    Advice to Management

    1) Management should start recognising people who do the boring BAU. They are the ones that keep the wheels turning, while others get to do the "glittery/shinny" stuffy that wins the awards. There are many quiet achievers in this company. 2) It's embarrassing and impossible to reconcile the message from management that IDP values diversity, when the leadership team has only 2 women on it. This is really not acceptable, and not good practice. If IDP really wants to walk the talk, it really needs to realise it needs to lead by example. There is also little succession planning. And we need to keep the quiet achievers motivated and engaged.
