    Pros

Company promotes physical fitness and wellness. By offering gym classes during lunch and healthy food choices in the cafeteria. The company staff is very friendly and willing to help if you ask and they have the time. The real world learning experience helped me apply the knowledge i learned in class.

    Cons

Some managers seem to have a lack of patience for interns after hiring. They often gave vague instructions on task to be completed without providing a mentor or contact for help. Depending on which manager your hired by placed will determine your experience.

    Advice to Management

Interns shouldn't be placed with impatient or temperamental managers.

I have been working at IGT full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Potential for advancement if you are able to give up nights and weekends for several years.

Great entry into technology if you take initiative on your own time and use the job only as a springboard.

    Decent health insurance.

    Cons

    No work life balance.

Workers might work six, ten+ hour night shifts per week for months on end.

Vacation requests are not filled especially if you work nights and everyone starts at night staying in that role potentially for years. People retire after putting in 20 years with no weekends off except specifically requested with vacation time assuming vacation is approved.

You will be belittled and talked down to, this is not a job for someone with any IT experience unless they have very thick skin. You will be treated very poorly by managers as well as team members and you will never be allowed to prove yourself unless you are very aggressive.

Very political environment. You move up by playing the game. Immediate managers and your operational support people do not come from a technical background, they got where they are because they played the game.

You will not have support unless you manage to wake a real engineer in the middle of the night or during a holiday. Your hands are tied beyond that. Your local support team cannot help, do not want to help and are going to be upset at your call.

You might not even know who your manager is for quite some time. They are very hands off unless they want to assign busy work to display dominance. They usually arrive between 830 and 930 am. They have meetings from about 10 am until 1130 am and then they take a two hour lunch. They might come back after lunch to check emails until about 330 to 430. They will rarely be in the area later than 4.

Managers will belittle you or totally ignore you and they cannot help you because they are not engineers. If you pay attention in training and take initiative you will know the system better than the entire management team combined in about a month maybe two.

    Advice to Management

Start over, clean house and hire new managers who care. Do not promote anyone to management unless they have a relevant technical certification such as RHCSA or LPIC-2 that way when they talk down to employees they at least have some kind of authority.

Hire new managers who are at least committed enough to create a schedule that allows for a work life balance. Your current team is so lazy people cannot find balance and you are losing operators.

I have been working at IGT full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Immediate managers are awesome, laid back atmosphere, casual environment for developers. Minimal micromanagement. Clear and concise goals and expectations

    Cons

sometimes too many cooks in the kitchen, however, we are making great products. Often folks not pulling their weight can slip by like a kid that can't read, in school. I wish we had different insurance but that seems to be everywhere.

    Advice to Management

I am super happy with management. My immediate manager is sensitive to my needs at work and the manager above him is one of the nicest people to work for. They acknowledge achievements and reward for them appropriately.

I have been working at IGT full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive compensation, international jobs/ experiences, coworkers for the most part very smart . For most part, provide tools needed to do job

    Cons

    Aggressive culture
Little embrace of diversity- put initiate in place, but words not actions.
80s mentality towards management. Hierarchal approach to management, inhibits candor and ability to take risks.
Little collaboration, people instead constantly competing against each other
    People do not feel valued

    Advice to Management

Need diversity within HR, and empower them to hold all leadership accountable in aligning to corporate mission. Need to demonstrate through actions that your people are the most valued resource, not interchangeable pieces that can be easily replaced.
