    Pros

The institute has a very high level appreciation of science at every level. It is a place you can spend time on solid research, not hypes. Many opportunities for a passionate researcher who is self driven and achievement oriented who are keen in creating impactful work for the practical use. Good work-life balance if you are not too ambitious. Pay is linked to the amount and extent of responsibility you hold.

    Cons

It is not surprising that in an interdisciplinary research organization, many in the management positions do not know the science and technology. Communication can sometimes be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Communicate regularly and sincerely with researchers.

I have been working at IHPC full-time

    Pros

compared to it's other attributes, work/life balance is not too bad, although I wouldn't praise it very highly in that regard either, year end bonuses not too bad though

    Cons

work environment very demotivating, people not passionate about research, research focus lacks confidence, overwhelming focus to please potential industry clients, doing research that would ultimately help the taxpayer is not a priority, virtually no pay raise, no room for growth as a researcher, HR is careless and does not consider employee satisfaction a priority
