I worked at IHS Markit full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Develop excellent client facing skills, gain exposure to a broad knowledge base, gain practical knowledge using factset.

    Cons

Comp is terrible, middle management is mostly abhorrent, the division is incredibly overworked, and the company is losing talent in spades because they refuse to pay anything other than wildly below market. The broader corporate structure post-acquisition (Ipreo to IHS Markit) seems to be slightly better but the unit specific leadership, and more importantly, team-specific leadership, cultivates a toxic-level culture of "client first, no matter the hours/lift/burden."

I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are some INCREDIBLY smart and dedicated people at IHS Markit. I don't think I have ever been around so many knowledgeable, professional, and friendly people. In my role I was able to be very hands on with clients and interact with the sales team a great deal, it really taught me a great deal about business in general. Usually pretty motivated people on the ground.

    Cons

With any client facing position you have to deal with difficult people and harsh deadlines. Turnover seemed to be increasing throughout my tenure there. By the time I left the team at 3 years I was one of the people who had been there the longest. The people on the lowest rung of upper management and the highest level of middle management have no idea what they're doing. They will make promises, switch things on a dime, and really don't have any sort of long term plan apart from "increase revenues". A great deal of the good managers left and many really good employees followed. I was lied to and given a promotion that then ended up never materializing just so that I wouldn't leave initially.

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Downtown location Global Team Growth in the Raleigh office

    Cons

You have to pay for parking (company helps but it does not cover all) Benefits stink Internal collaboration tools are awful (MS Teams sucks) Management is too busy to manage/lead I am an Associate Director so I do not need a hands on manager. However, all 3 managers I've had here have been sub-par. Communication is lacking and leadership is nonexistent. There is also a very clear top down approach - upper management decides we should all begin doing "Plan Z", middle management pulls the fire drill and tells everyone to immediately do "Plan Z", individual contributors are left thinking "Why Plan Z? What happened to Plan Y?", and middle management basically says "just do what you're told and don't ask any questions." This is not an open, transparent environment.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Smart colleagues - Generally well-respected in the industry - Offices around the world - CEO and leadership team

    Cons

    - Mafia-like mentality within the individual companies. No one likes to work together, too much gossip (especially by management) - Middle management is absolutely awful. No accountability. No training. No one cares how they treat employees. - Does not care about the advancement of younger employees. I am not sure why, because there are many smart younger people working here. - No communication between groups. - Sends employees to other countries to live and work and then does not renew their certificate to have said employee work there. This makes it so the employee is there illegally. Then, they fire the employee without cause; the same one they sent to live in another country, due to a company error. - Worst HR team you could imagine. Almost comical. I do not see IHSM lasting more than 7 years with the type of management they have here. It simply is not possible.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    • Innovative Firm (heavy into data analytics trends and innovations) • Solid Pricing Data, Tools, and Research • Collaborative Culture • Work-life Balance

    Cons

    • High Cost of Insurance Premiums • Limited overall Benefits and constantly decreasing year over year • Low Bonuses, even for a financial data vendor • Low Base Compensation – Miles away from Market Rate • Limited to No professional skills training (felt if the development budget kept shrinking, offerings definitively did..) • So many middle managers, so many useless levels of middle management doing physical hand-off type functions and nonsensical tasks (So many legacy members with senior titles based on length of employment vs. quality of work or output) leaves many confused beyond belief. • Easy to become Jaded after a year; workflow becomes monotonous with very little to no guidance from "senior" team members

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of effort being put into maturing our career development pathways and professional development opportunities; More to come; Remote work options allow for flexibility and work-life balance; Lots of changes, yes, but the company seems to be going through a period of overall improvement and maturing. It's a good time to be with IHSM!

    Cons

Middle management is not focused on action; product managers are too far removed from technical details (not enough communication and translation between business functions); Compensation could be much better, but work-life balance compensates for that in a big way.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time

    Pros

Benefits (vacation days, medical insurance, 401K etc.) match market average level.

    Cons

Worsen culture in all teams: below market rate pay across North America, middle management unfair treatment to analysts, stock price struggle, micro-management, high turnover rate and aggravated favoritism and politics, poor career progression opportunities other, inflated titles.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time

    Pros

Despite being a large company there are many areas, team members and products that embraces change, innovation, and service. They want to be the best of the best. Good learning environment for entry level.

    Cons

Too much middle management. Not enough decision makers. The top doesn't talk to the bottom in most cases. Financial Technology, not enough Women Leaders who help other women leaders.
