I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I enjoyed my time as a senior marketing manager. The work was fast paced and the business line I supported was exciting and growing. I didn't like the 80's style cubicles as we looked like 75 mice in a pretty easy maze (boring) to navigate. My management team was pretty good too.

    Cons

There was a lot of challenges with what our roles were supposed to be. Senior management were changing things left and right. With all of the acquisitions, they were struggling to figure out who they were and who they wanted to be.

"Low Pay and Management a Joke..."

I worked at IHS Markit full-time

    Pros

The commercial side of the business is great! The Insight, CERA and other Energy teams are comprised of exceedingly intelligent people who know what they are doing, are collaborative and really do make an impact on work energy markets. The colleagues on this team are the complete opposite of the "operations" side of the business.

    Cons

The operations side of IHS is an absolute joke, especially the sales operations organization. This company way underpays its employees for the work they do. Mid-level managers particularly at the Director, Senior Director and VP level only care about gaming the system so that they can get their coveted bonuses. They don't actually "solve" any real issues for the business or bring value. Rather, they make it look like they accomplished something through fancy reports. When they miss their goal or objective, they simply create what they call "phase 2" of a project and then attempt to fix what it was they didn't correctly do the first time around. This process continues for years on end. For a company who should be cutting edge, have a lot of "insight" into strategic planning and process, they simply are a bumbling mess under the hood, very inefficient and over charge for their products and services because they just can't pull their act together. Finally, those mid level managers will make the analysts and junior managers do all the heavy lifting/actual work on a project and then they take ALL the credit for what was accomplished. These people are scary to work for. Oh, and it's pretty strange that the CEO Scott Key just abruptly left one day with no real explanation. This company constantly has management issues and every other month there is some major senior management shakeup. There is never any stability and the company does 3 major layoff cycles a year. I was with the company 4 years and just decided to get out on my own before being brought down by internal politics.

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company has access to lots of data and information that can be fun for a self starter

    Cons

Senior Management focused on keeping their own jobs - few are focused on creating a true company. Workers feel disconnected from company - in every office

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great people in the day to day environment, beautiful offices

    Cons

Senior management makes it difficult to do day to day jobs; always concerned more about the bottom line and savings than the people and the processes. Technology is way behind and always trying to catch up cheaply

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Markit employes some incredibly talented, hard working and dedicated professionals.

    Cons

Unfortunately, senior management, with few exceptions is focused on "the next deal" instead of addressing growing product and technology issues. The cheapest possible route is the only one taken. Additionally, some MDs are completely out of their depth. A handful are so destructive and completely unhinged yet remain untouched. The executive team is well aware of these individuals yet does nothing. They routinely bully, abuse and mismanage their respective teams. One in particular is so loud and abrasive, sharing every personal detail to the dismay and disgust of fellow employees.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can obtain a lot of experience in a short amount of time if you have the right manager. The keys are having the right manager and being in a growing business unit.

    Cons

Very difficult to obtain director and managing director status. Performance too low or profile too high (higher than executives) grounds for dismissal. Senior management is very greedy and has set low caps.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time

    Pros

Pay and benefits are in line with market, or a little above. Generally nice people to work with, outside of management.

    Cons

Management is a mess -- they project smiles but it's well known it's open warfare among the senior management team as they position themselves. Middle managers are terrible -- they do nothing but protect their paychecks at the expense of everyone in their departments. I've seen horrible treatment of good people who were doing good work. Be prepared to be in early, stay late and always be available, no matter what your position or situation, and don't expect to be thanked for the extra effort, because there is no work/life balance.

    I worked at IHS Markit

    Pros

    - Learn a lot about finance - Really nice people mostly - Location is great - Yoga class, massage sometimes, they send gifts for special occasions, some decent food stocked in the kitchen Some of the people I worked with seemed visionary, talented and genuinely caring about their work.

    Cons

    - Noisy environment - Repetetive work - Lots of chaos and shuffling around of employees - Poor communication from team leads - High turnover - Disconnect between what senior management says and what they actually do WSOD changed for the worse in 2008. People began mysteriously disappearing from their desks without explanation, all the while senior management claimed that they would not have any layoffs. I was terminated within two months of receiving a great performance review. They gave me a 6 week timeframe to "shape up" my design skills, and I soon realized that it was a ruse - that no matter what I did they were going to fire me. I realize that companies need to clean house, but this came as a shock to me nonetheless.
