    I worked at IHS full-time

    Pros

none since IHS is selling to MarkIt

    Cons

Many of the IHS reviews are LIES and put here by HR.

    Advice to Management

Many of the reviews that are being givin here are being done by IHS HR. They know the impact that GlassDoor has. As it is, IHS is selling out to Markit. Their Corporate HQ is up for sale and many of the employees know that they will not have a job there.
Yet, good reviews continue to roll out.
    Total LIES.

I have been working at IHS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very smart people, lots of learning opportunities, relaxed atmosphere, competent management (on the consulting side)

    Cons

    -No structured growth path
-Very low salaries compared to industry, bonus is pretty much non-existent and not tied to individual's performance
-No communication among the many function teams

    Advice to Management

-Increase salaries and create a stronger culture to decrease turnover.

    Pros

Great benefits with a flexible schedule...depending upon your reporting line.

    Cons

Far too many people in role for too long that makes them single minded in their views.

Too many people that hold onto the old adage of 'we've always done it this way'.

Network and IT Operations is some of the worst I've seen in my career.

Fire drill mentality is rampant due to their 'Customer First' philosophy.

Applications that aren't seen as a growth target are left with zero maintenance with some systems being in excess of 10 years old technology and completely out of support.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on the bottom line all of the time and focus on truly providing value beginning with your employees. Seriously look at the amount of offshoring you're undertaking and invest in US based employees.

I worked at IHS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

IHS has great benefits and some definite perks for their employees. Lots of great people around you.

    Cons

For a large company, there is very little consistency across the organization. Every business unit has it's own set of "rules" and it makes it very difficult to get anything done efficiently. The leadership does not want to support consistency, even though they say they do. The actions here speak louder than words.
They also promote a good work life balance, but it also very much depends on who you work for...there are no hard fast rules on this policy.

    Advice to Management

Simplify and focus. We're moving in too many directions at the same time, with no real clear goal.

I worked at IHS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - interesting work
    - strong teams with good people at the non-manager level
    - benefits were good, lots of vacation, fair salaries

    Cons

    - big company with so many acquisitions, often feel directionless, or that individual contribution is insignificant
    - decisions are made to meet quarterly targets, not with long term objectives
    - many of the IT/HR/resource processes are confusing and difficult to get what you need
    - seems difficult to move up the ladder

    Advice to Management

The company is clearly managed to the quarterly bottomline which does result in a successful stock price but I have to wonder what the long term impact will be on the company as potentially successful projects get shelved, people let go primarily to meet this months numbers.
