Great place to work everyone pulls together to get the job down

I have been working at II-VI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company provided benefits are excellent, qaurterly bonuses based off profit margin.

    Cons

Management leaves a lot to be desired, the entire company is reactive to the market instead of proactive. Each individual department points fingers at others when it comes to taking responsibility for mistakes so problems rarely get solved. Hourly employees have little to no room for growth and only the top level managers make a decent salary for the amount of work done.

    Advice to Management

Middle management needs a complete makeover to make the company better.

    Cons

I didnnot experience any cons (left company for personal reasons - the company is great!)

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

I have been working at II-VI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good medical benefits, profit sharing/bonus plan, many good people work here

    Cons

Lower than average pay for the region; top-heavy upper management vs employees; more focused on how many hours you work and heating seats than happy, efficient, and dedicated employees; management is inconsiderate of employee work/life balance; employees are generally disgruntled and overworked

    Advice to Management

Update your policies to align with the current work environment in 2016; hire more people to do the actual work rather than upper management to micromanage the understaffed workforce

    Pros

The profit sharing/bonus plan helps make up for the lower industrial standard pay scale. The benefit package is decent

    Cons

WAY TOO MANY Upper Levels of Management. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. Very Cult-like. Many managers not held responsible for their shortcomings and most promotions based on Good Old Boys connections. When business slows down, workers are laid off while the top heavy management stays behind. Evaluations focus on hours worked and not on the work that is or is not accomplished during those hours.

    Advice to Management

Clean house from the top down and hire more people who come from outside of Butler County.

    I worked at II-VI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Bonus program
Gain a lot of knowledge on many applications and services

    Cons

    The wrong people are promoted
Employees are burned out, stressed and have bad attitudes
No work/life balance, company comes before kids/life, etc.
Some supervisors are not held accountable for sleeping and not doing their work. Some get away with playing on their cell phones, watching moves, etc.
Salary plus bonus still does not meet industry standards for technical jobs
Way too top heavy on the management side
High turn over rate for knowledgeable employees
45 hour minimum but expectation is closer to 50.
Expected to work off hours, oncall, weekends and whenever needed.
If you are good at your job you are expected to do more and more, mostly work for those who complain.

Would not recommend a salary position at II-VI.

    Advice to Management

Slim down the management team, hire some analysts that the company desperately needs. Hold people accountable and treat everyone the same.

I worked at II-VI (Less than a year)

    Pros

Put correct people within management positions in order to get the best out of everyone. Also improved morale by doing this.

    Cons

Expected to work long hours including weekends for the better of the company instead of just hiring more people to help ease the workload.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees in order to create an easier workload and therefore have happier employees who do not feel that they have all work and no play.

    Pros

Some really great people work here, but they are over worked.

    Cons

People are promoted that have bad attitudes. Only some people are held accountable for their behavior. There is a constant high amount of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Stop expecting employees to be perfect and firing them.

Mans club and old school company. If you are minorities or educated go and find yourself something else.

    Advice to Management
