I worked at IKEA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For a part time employee in college, I was shocked to find out they gave me PTO and sick days! They also worked very well with my class schedule.

    Cons

The only con would be that sometimes it felt as though the manager was not doing all he could to help out with the team effort.

    Advice to Management

Try to communicate with employees as much as possible, and really listen to their ideas.

I have been working at IKEA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For retail they do care about environment and sustainability. At its core IKEA wants to make a better life for everyone with quality low cost goods. I feel positive about having a job that is 'convincing you to buy more than you were intending' because I believe in the products.

    Cons

IKEA USA recently botched a floor to ceiling corporate restructuring and stores are feeling the impact of new roles with undefined processes or methods.

    Advice to Management

Recruit more from within. You're loosing talent that is becoming bored or disenfranchised with their inability to progress.

I worked at IKEA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great values driven company that provides daily challenges, fast pace, and provides home furnishings solutions for the many through democratic design and placing a priority on low prices.

    Cons

Technologically challenged making it difficult to reach all of todays customers in a multi-channel retail world. Opportunities for growth are minimal with very low turnover in management, and relocation is often the only way to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Change will need to start from the top down for this company in the U.S.

I worked at IKEA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work felt like play to me because I love design and furniture. They have restructured the Communication and Interior Design Dept. since I left, but I was in charge of designing and mantaining the room sets, and work in collaboration with the Sales dept. Benefits are great. My coworkers who had babies while working there said all they spent at the hospital was $300 for the delivery. You also have the opportunity to travel to other IKEA's overseas or domestically (expenses paid) to help with the buildups of new stores.

    Cons

The pay is not great, and you have to help the Sales dept. on the floor during big holidays (Black Friday etc...) even though you are not in the Sales dept.

I have been working at IKEA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits. Employee meal plan. It’s ok place to work at but i highly suggest looking into several depts one that best fits you.

    Cons

Management. Stopped listening to my availability.

    Advice to Management

Don’t get stressed and get mad at employees over it. It really effects the employees. Major reason why I’m leaving. Listen to availability.. especially for parents.. it’s so stressful for parents to not know if you will have a sitter or not leading up to a shift but if you had listened to availability it would’ve been a easy transition between both parents.
