I worked at IKEA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to move between teams. Want to work on your career growth? No problem, talk to your manager and do an internal interview and boom. "One Team One Store"

    Cons

    Cant really say there's any.

    Advice to Management

I worked in livingrooms and the best manager very understanding.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Benefits are very very good. This includes medical and tuition reimbursement which is helpful if you want to go to school, because many people would like to go to school but can't really afford it. And they give you retirement money I think but I'm not sure.

    Cons

Salary is not so good but that's why the benefits have to be good. I think it's helfpul if you are in a two income family because it would be very hard to live on the salary at IKEA.

    Advice to Management

They are nice people and they are helpful if you need a day off which everyone does once in a while right?

Pleasant and supportive management; employee benefits are offered even for part-time workers.

    Cons

Low pay, retail hours, weekend shifts, can be stressful on busy weekend days

    Advice to Management

Allow for more frequent evaluations and pay increases.

    Pros

IKEA strives hard to maintain their best co-workers for years to come.

    Cons

There are ongoing opportunities to deal with difficult customers.

    Advice to Management

When visiting stores, senior corporate management should ask co-workers how to better increase sales in their departments; assess their suggestions; implement those ideas on a pilot basis; then expand that business practice nationwide.

    Pros

Lots of respect and collaboration between management and associate workers. Great benefits, even for part time employees (including discounted meals and even sick pay). Flexible management.

    Cons

Work can get repetitive, and the store is very crowded on the weekends. Expect some customers who will not be happy that IKEA's setup guides customers to walk through the whole store to get to the exit.

    Advice to Management

Offer performance reviews a little more often. Sometimes more employees on the floor would be beneficial. Also, be more sensitive to employees taking more/longer breaks than others.

    Cons

customers expect high level customer service from a retailer that keeps its prices low by reducing the face time you spend with customers.

    Advice to Management

IKEA should provide stronger leadership/mangment training to mid-level managers so they can inspire lower ranked employees.
