    Pros

Good group of people, that is probably the thing that keeps most coming back day in and day out. The ability to make a decient paycheck is there although it decreases each year.
    Benefits are good.
If you are going to work in the industry this is the 600lb. goralla.

    Cons

    Manage by spreadsheet
Too many meetings and conference calls
Area leader claims to be supportive of a work life balance but in actuallity nothing like what is said
How many different excel call reports can you really expect
Most everyone in managment will sell you up the river to advance or protect themselves
Leader will tell you one thing to your face and the complete opposite to others

    Advice to Management

    Respect your employees

    Pros

Very good people working for IKON. Wonderful coworkers. Some of the most knowledgeable and experienced people make is enjoyable to work at IKON. It used to be a better place to work but much uncertainty about Ricoh takeover and transition ("Integration").

    Cons

Old Boy Network alive and well @ IKON (NorthEast connection in particular). Interview process a joke for many posted promotional positions. Who you know, not what you know. Inside connections used for most job fillings regardless of seniority, achievement, ability to satisfy customer etc. I have not seen accountability for people who make hiring decisions based upon connections. Major steps overlooked, omitted or simply ignored because decisions made prior to open postings.

It is disheartening when people work for a long time for certain positions which are filled before they are opened.

NY Sales force has been a revolving door for more years than can be remembered. Higher turnaround in NYC than any other marketplace.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the interview process. Too many uninformed people in the process for no good reason.
Promote quality people instead of cronies or outsiders.

    Pros

    - Service Department is EXCEPTIONAL in responding to customer needs
    - Compensation Plan is competitive
    - Management leaves you alone - if you are a performer

    Cons

    - Poor compensation plan for mileage
    - HR does not follow the same guidelines for all individuals
    - Management is ONLY out to better themselves
    - Demeaning language is tolerated even after HR complaints
    - Account management takes away from selling time
    - Management will give or take away large accounts, based on how much they like you
    - Poor communication about major transitions happening within the company

    Advice to Management

There is a reason why you create and approve policies and procedures every year. It is extremely important at a lower level that these policies and procedures are followed by each individual, and if not, the individual consequences are the same. Management is running the show based on likeability, not on talent or skill level. Spend more time at branch locations and open your eyes and listen to your employees. It is extremely disheartening when we are asked to let you know what you can improve and you do not even make an attempt to resolve some of the major issues brought to your attention. Why not compensate based on new sales only? The offices are filled with order takers who are shed into the spotlight because they were fortunate to be in a territory that has several large loyal customers who are willing to (with minimal effort from the sales rep) renew their lease. Praise should be to those who go out and find new business. Compensate the SERVICE team for renewing current account business. It's backwards, and growth is not an option until you recognize those who are not order takers.

    Pros

IKON is a great place to start a sales career. Good training and structure and energetic teams provide solid foundation.

    Cons

Small territories and large number of reps create crossover and tension causing confusion and heavy internal politics. Low base salary and heavy competition makes it increasingly difficult to make decent commissions.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is skeptical and often show favoritism toward certain reps making inner office politics very critical towards success. Top earning reps get to where they are by playing the internal game the best.

    Advice to Management

Fix your delivery and operational systems. Streamline processes and make sure that they are more linear than circuitous.

    Pros

Great place to start and finish if you are considering BtoB sales. Great place to work if you can tolerate marginal service and administrative performance.

    Cons

IKON is challenged to provide services they profess to provide. When they went from DBA's to IKON they fired everyone that build that office equipment business for them to save money.

    Advice to Management

Support your promisses to customers. Dont abandon your sales reps to the whims of an incompetent service/support department. Empower them to be honest with client by providing a realistic business plan.

lots of turnover on the entry level account managers that we support

    Pros

I loved the people I worked with and the flexability of my schedule.

    Cons

This was my first sales job out of college and I didn't get very good direction from my manager. I felt lost pretty much the entire time that I worked there.

    Advice to Management

Give new reps a little more direction then just having a 1 year tenured rep train a new hire
