    Positive Outlook

    I worked at IMLS

    Pros

Amazing environment to learn; opportunity to learn more about how Intellectual property rights work for museums and libraries (especially copyrights); a lot policy research work

    Cons

Not much to say here except that work here requires a lot of research over a long period of time (which was what i was looking for here)

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at IMLS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are a number of really great people working here. All working for a perfectly insane leadership.

    Cons

There are reasons this agency is rated one of the worst in the entire federal government--by its own employees. Extremely poor leadership, poor management, top-heavy, misguided, disorganized, petty, compartmentalized, backward, insular, ineffective, inefficient...the list goes on.

    Advice to Management

Resign. All of you. You're just awful.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at IMLS full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They will pay you. If you use lots of buzzwords and schedule a ton of meetings, you'll be a golden child and you'll be paid a lot more than you're worth.

    Cons

So many people doing SO LITTLE. Real masters of making busy-ness out of triviality and pedantry. The whole place could easily run with half the staff.

    Advice to Management

Let Congress shut you down. Block grants to states and call it a day.
