    Pros

A number of good people work in the organization. It's one of the few redeeming qualities. The pay is okay and initially competitive, but frankly from an hourly perspective employees are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated.

    Cons

Uncertainty regarding separation from parent company, bonus structure is completely arbitrary with no explanation, milestones when reached are rarely recognized, organization appears to be straight out of a George Orwell novel with marching orders coming from Big Brother.

    Advice to Management

Employees are stretched to the brink. Promotion opportunities are very limited and mission statement is completely ignored. Turnover is very, very high for a reason.

    Pros

The location of the office in Atlanta. Also, they have the best caferia in any state that I have ever worked in. The guard and cafeteria staff are the brightest points of working at ING. They are nice, happy and positive and do not allow the rude and dysfunctional people who work there affect their attitudes!

    Cons

During my time at ING, 99% of management was extremely unprofessional. Sometimes, they did not know what they were doing and quite frankly, we flew by the seat of our pants 90% of the time. Also, camaraderie does not exist at ING. IING has the absolute rudest employees. Managers go out of their way it ignore their favorites and you rarely get a smile or a nod from your fellow employees. Someone needs to put an attitude adjustment in the water filtration system there.

    Pros

    Big name for your resume.

    Cons

Constant reorganizations/layoffs. Management over works and under appreciates employees. I would not recommend this employer if other options are available.

I have been working at ING full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Location of the office nothing else

    Cons

no leadership either at the very senior level or at the lower management levels, no clear direction. THe culture in the IT department is horrible . 15 people have left in the past 2 years. There are some good employees but the very existant office politics is exhausting. Never have I seen grown adults fight so much. The HR department does nothing they are powerless.

    Pros

Great place to start a career. If your Entry to Mid Level you will get the experience you need to get to that point from the work, not from training programs, but from digging into the work. Also the benefits are better than most large companies (insurance copay and coverage, and time off accrue).

    Cons

The management is VERY niche orientated. Your paid according to who you know, how well you play the 'What ever you say' game, and if they like you on a personal level (not merit). Their hiring and promotion practices are very questionable and makes it difficult to stay as a long time employee, unless you like being underpaid and over worked.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate the hiring/promotion practices and find ways to retain valuable senior employees. It costs more to hire/train/bring up to speed a new employee than keeping an existing employee happy through merit raises/work day scheduling.

    Pros

Great Work Life Balanace and PTOs. You are free to take off whenever you need to leave the office.

    Cons

Poor Leadership, Poor Performance, Poor Investment in Human Capital, Systems, and Resources. The condition of the business can only be described as on life support. If you need a paycheck this is ok, but only if you have no other options. Additionally, the majority of employees lack motivation and the desire to compete. Intellectual curiousity is not valued.

    Advice to Management

Hit the Reset Button. Poor Leadership is reflected in seriously negative employee morale. Given the last 2 years in the industry the place feels like a boneyard.

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Large Company
    Good training programs

    Cons

    Job security is zero
    Employees are not treated equally
More emphasis on certifications rather than ability to work the position.
Generally hires from outside rather than promotes from within.

    Advice to Management

Look at your employees as people rather than just a piece of company equipment.

  9. "ING IM -- mediocre compensation, vast uncertainty"

    Pros

Substantial investment capabilities, both in terms of technology and people. A consistent investment philosophy across the fixed income platform. Upside potential depending on growth of investment management business, rebranding of IM apart from banking and insurance. Good work/life balance relative to other investment management firms.

    Cons

Vast uncertainty in terms of future of business, future of company, location of operations, etc. Marginal track record in most strategies. Political pressures from HQ in Netherlands impact pay, especially bonuses. Bitter office politics. Too much emphasis on seniority and "experience", not enough appreciation for talent, not enough effort to get the most out of everyone's skill set.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve to be paid. If you pay mediocre wages/bonuses compared to competitors, you are doomed to work with mediocre talent, which ING IM is flush with at every level and job function in the firm.

    Pros

    Salary and benefits are decent

    Cons

    Processes are ridiculous
Left hand never knows whats going on with the right hand
Portrays a great image but behind closed doors, ING is a hot mess...like a 'mom & pop shop.'

    Advice to Management

All the problems that ING faces is a result of incompentent senior management. You have good intelligent employees... those beneath you are much smarter than you. You should hush and listen sometimes and things would run much better.
