I worked at IRA Motor Group part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very laid back. Quiet office and tranquil environment. You also get to drive brand new rental cars. The dealership offers you great employee purchase/lease deals as well as discounted parts.

    Cons

upward movement is non existent. Very little development given to employees. Scheduling is set and can become a problem if the other 4 employees can't cover you.

    Advice to Management

Offer your employees more options. Notice who is working towards expanding themselves and help them seek out more from the company.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at IRA Motor Group full-time

    Pros

Love customer service and cars. My thoughts would be that I could accomplish this till I could get back into the medical field.

    Cons

I work 12 hours day without breaks. Not a good business to be in if you work 100% commission.

    Advice to Management

Better communication as well as allowing staff to rotate so they can have a break. Keeping an eye on the schedule as to not overbook. This prevents potential sales as well as customer retention.

I worked at IRA Motor Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Compensation was almost relative to amount of work performed
-Some leniency in regards to rearranging of schedules (in comparison to other dealer groups )

    Cons

    - Not unusual to work a 14 hour shift, sometimes as long as a 17 hour shift with no say in the matter and no additional pay/incentive to do so.
    - Was told on numerous occasions, " You leave when the job is done." which caused the incredibly long shifts.
-Not a lot of room for advancement even if one's numbers increase on a monthly basis.

Bottom line is - you will be worked like a dog until you can't take it anymore, take the money and run as well as eventually find yourself out on your butt.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like human beings with lives outside of your dealerships. Yes, profit is the goal, but a little morale never hurt a team, did it? Would like to see more in-house promotions, especially due to the "promote within," edict. On a good note, there are some great managers that truly do believe in bettering their team, but even these employees deserve more of the pie than they receive.

    Pros

Cohesiveness among different departments, community involvement and outreach, room for growth within the company, different dealerships support each other and work together to provide customers with the best experience possible

    Cons

Nights and weekend shifts are expected, as well as occasional holiday shifts, systems are corporate-driven and often are not best suited for each individual dealership

    Advice to Management

Consult team members quarterly to assess and measure where the dealership can improve it's functions, as well as what the front-line employees observe that would best help to make the customer experience a positive one

    Pros

There are so many employees that you won't stick out if you don't want to. It's an easy enough place to work at if you just need a temp job with no advancement.

    Cons

No raises or advancement to low level employees. Group 1 Automotive only cares about profit margins. In the short time I worked there I saw 4 GM's leave. Having to lie to customers about how much you care for their needs.

    Advice to Management

There's very little that can be done to fix the monster that is Group 1 Automotive. You might as well just keep taking advantage of everyone.
