I worked at IRS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The flexibility to work the hours you wanted based on scheduling appointments around your day. The supervision is to dictated no flexibility with management making the decisions.

    Cons

The amount of work versus the training was no comparison. You are given an abundance of cases without proper training. In addition you are not allow to seek help from other agents when in training. You are only allowed to ask the OJI.

    Advice to Management

Allow new trainees to ask other agents for help. The OJIs only volunteer for promotions and not for the love of the job.

I worked at IRS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Got paid. 3% of the people are decent human beings. Could listen to audiobooks all night and believe me- you'll need to drown out the gossip and negativity.

    Cons

Incompetent, unprofessional, abusive, manipulative, and bigoted management at all levels. The regular employees are worse because they're trying to "out bully" each other to gain favor. Facility is old, run down, and smells of mold. It floods and gets sewage back ups when it rains but they want us to pretend it doesn't. Lots vermin- insect and mammalian. People cough, get migraines, and break out all the time. I found fungus growing in the toilet paper dispenser when a roll fell out. Managers prefer to bully people rather than become better managers. Promotions are based on nepotism, cronyism, and race. The more uneducated and backwoods you are- the farther you go and faster. The organization itself is mismanaged and inadequate. This place should have shut down 10 years ago.

    Advice to Management

Get an education and diversity training. Take management courses and learn how to keep things from escalating. Keep your home life at home. Don't project your insecurities onto employees who are more qualified and try to tear them down.

    Pros

Depending on what grade you start in, the pay is decent, (GS 7 or 9 with the possibilty of competing for an 11) benefits, and security

    Cons

Management and training has got to be the absolute worse. The TCO program is broken and everyone knows it. High turnover position...

    Advice to Management

Nothing, you can't change a broken system. Stop putting incompetent people in management roles.
