I worked at ITV (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented colleagues who are skilled media-makers meant I *usually* worked with folks with whom it was a joy to collaborate.

    Cons

Inconsistent quality of leadership - some show runners are great, others really (really) not - and, most importantly, freelancers given heavier workloads with shrinking schedules and budgets. This is an industry-wide problem, but this place started becoming worse than others. And their commitment to not giving their producers/AP's a contract after over a year spending money on lawsuits fighting the WGAE contract when that money could be going to freelancers' benefits, OT pay and union representation is just unconscionable.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone may be a strong producer, doesn't necessarily mean they have the managerial/leadership skills necessary to be a strong show runner who knows how to or is committed to bringing the best out of their team. Also, rather than spending money on lawyers to fight the WGAE contract, please put that money to better use by giving the producers/AP's the contract they deserve so that they can spend their energy creating quality programming that earns iTV and the networks good money, while they can feel secure knowing they can continue to support themselves and their families now and in the future.

Average pay, bad management at local level, not valued, bad communication

    Advice to Management

Need to speak to their staff

I worked at ITV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary level pretty good; flexible working arrangements; decent IT hardware provision; chance to work with talent/on popular shows.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for career growth - never felt the company was keen to invest in professional development, or allow younger workers to take on extra responsibility; hard to get yourself noticed by senior management.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your workforce; give opportunities for younger employees to shine (especially on the digital side); give editorial staff better insight into the commercial side of the business.

    Pros

Social scene is good. Your work stays at work. Many opportunities to go to training days.

    Cons

Very little career progression, they constantly block promotions across departments because they will go for someone with experience over talent. Very boring work load and extremely mundane

    Advice to Management

The CEO is not Archie Norman

I worked at ITV full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great brand, decent product, free average tasting coffee, in growth phase,

    Cons

Little autonomy, clandestine senior management, no thought or care for staff, no room for growth or development, don't reward high performers, training and development needs are not considered, environment similar to a communist state, severe lack of direction & actual work from senior management around the day to day department work loads, forced good people out of the business because senior management felt threatened (personal opinion).

    Advice to Management

Get department heads to lead and manage rather than focus on managing upwards.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at ITV as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Tries hard to become value for money for investors

    Cons

Does not invest into innovation, British talent or quality.

    Advice to Management

Cutting the workforce and demanding staff to become more efficient at their jobs does not make you a market leader. Be a leader in making quality programming rather than lowest common denominator shows and be a leader in investing into quality rather than seeking cheap shortcuts.
