I have been working at Iberia Parish School Board part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with many different children is fun,& exciting.
But you must stay up to date with the new curriculum common core & regulations.

    Cons

There are no Cons to be frank.

I worked at Iberia Parish School Board full-time

    Pros

Those few glimmering moments of being able to teach students.

    Cons

There is zero accountability in regards to the students. For the most part, the administration is comprised of a bunch of brown-nosing hypocrites that will joyfully sacrifice the faculty and students for their own gain.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic in expectations of faculty; be more supportive of the employees. Be walking examples of the type of employees you want yours to be. Hold your students accountable for the negative actions and reward the good ones. Be part of the solution- not the problem.

    Pros

New Iberia Parish is Great area to work in with a lot of structure, depending on the school.

    Cons

Although, it is too hot in the summer, stuffy and gets hit by hurricanes or tropical storms quite often.

    Pros

    - time off
    - benefits
    - retirement
    - you can be really lazy and get away with it
    - job security

    Cons

    - extremely stressful
    - high energy job
    - unsafe at my school
    - higher ups show disdain for teachers
    - making the school/parish look good seems to take precedence over overall school environment
    - other people can be really lazy and get away with it
    - lazy/incompetent people get rewarded with less responsibilities

    Advice to Management

Speak up to the state about the teacher load and stress level. Speak up to the state about what good teachers have been doing for years. Let the state know that the reason they need so many new initiatives is because a portion of the population (not all by any means) has poor parenting and poor teachers. The good teachers are suffering, and you will continue to lose them if things don't change.
