I have been working at Icagen as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot has changed since 2010, in 2011 Icagen was bought by Pfizer for their Ion channel expertise and other things. Then in 2015, the company was spun out of Pfizer and now does contract ion channel and transporter work. So mostly the same people doing the same type science in the same location, three different ways.

Pros: Extremely knowledgeable scientists. Start up energy and feel. Everyone "wears multiple hats." Nice people, no overblown egos or hard to work with people.

    Cons

Cons: As a contract research organization, there are many projects, all done differently. ICAgen really caters to their customers and sometimes that can make life difficult.
Since Icagen is putting money and effort into growth, funding can be tight (compared to big pharma, but is better than academia)

    Advice to Management

So far so good. Management seems to lead by example now rather than micromanaging as mentioned in an earlier review. Of course that may be because they are too busy right now.

I worked at Icagen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people and a can do attitude. Was fun to progress compounds that could make it to the clinic and serve patients

    Cons

Because of small size opportunity for advancement was limited. Management was very micro-managing and not very trusting of the expertise of the staff they hired.

    Advice to Management

Culture would have benefited from being less micro-managerial
