I worked at Iceland Foods part-time for more than a year

    Pros

All staff get paid the same rate regardless of age, meaning at 16 you were earning the same as any 25+ year old. Massive bonus.

    Cons

Would ask for you to work extra, just as a shift was coming to an end. Would go in from 8-1.30 and end up staying to 5.30. Would have to work at least half an hour extra to get extra pay, but if you left a few minutes early (all work done after shop closed), you would be docked 15 minutes pay

    Advice to Management

    Plan further in advance

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay and generally nice environment to work

    Cons

can be hard to progress as some duty managers and supervisors have been in the same position in the same store for 20+ years etc so no need for new ones

    Advice to Management

rotate weekends and later shifts for duty managers so one member is not doing them all

I worked at Iceland Foods full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Amazing canteen, not much in the way of benefits otherwise. I think if you want to for many people, you can leave at 5pm on the dot most days (70% of staff do) although most managers don’t. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Not much opportunity to progress. Lots of redundancies. Very old school, no flexible working and smart dress every day.

    Advice to Management

    Modernise.

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Usually decent pay - it has fluctuated from minimum to above minimum in the past few years. Dynamic environment, friendly colleagues and customers are generally nice.

    Cons

Some managers don't listen or communicate well depending on stores. Work hours, no medium between having too many or too little. Hard to get asked days off in a work week. Training employees seems to have become a hit and miss thing depending on stores. Some standards are unrealistic for the lack of allocated hours per store.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to your front line staff, offer them hours rather than hire extra bodies. Upper management seem more and more disconnected to the stores struggles even though they keep trying to appear as though they understand.

  8. "It was good at the start"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Home Delivery Driver

I worked at Iceland Foods part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay, it was £9.50 p/h

    Cons

Used to do deliveries by splitting them between two drivers via paper e.g. there would be 16 deliveries and one driver would get 8 and the other would get 8 A new system was introduced (mobile phone) which basically put all the information you needed on to that device so there was no longer for the need of paperwork. It was also your Sat Nav. Since that happenes it became a not enjoyable job. It make the job unfair...

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Pay is decent - Holiday is easily approved - Allow extended periods of time off (unpaid) - Easy work

    Cons

    - Can be backlogs of inventory which create stressful situations when targets need to be met for restocking. - Meeting expectations for restocking can be difficult - Work-life balance can be difficult depending on shift times given

    Advice to Management

    - Better people management and more efficient practices, as well as setting realistic targets for deliveries.
