  1. "It was good at the start"

Former Employee - Home Delivery Driver

I worked at Iceland Foods part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay, it was £9.50 p/h

    Cons

Used to do deliveries by splitting them between two drivers via paper e.g. there would be 16 deliveries and one driver would get 8 and the other would get 8 A new system was introduced (mobile phone) which basically put all the information you needed on to that device so there was no longer for the need of paperwork. It was also your Sat Nav. Since that happenes it became a not enjoyable job. It make the job... unfair and more stressful. As the device allocates jobs based on what it thinks one van can do (in a 2 hr slot) e.g. if there was 16 deliveries, it could put 12 on one van and 4 on the other. This made it pretty much impossible to do the job and you were always running late - turned into a really tiring, back bending job - don't apply

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Pay is decent - Holiday is easily approved - Allow extended periods of time off (unpaid) - Easy work

    Cons

    - Can be backlogs of inventory which create stressful situations when targets need to be met for restocking. - Meeting expectations for restocking can be difficult - Work-life balance can be difficult depending on shift times given

    Advice to Management

    - Better people management and more efficient practices, as well as setting realistic targets for deliveries.

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They can be flexible and managers are generally easy to talk to.

    Cons

Lots of pressure on store managers, which can filter down in the form of scare tactics to sales assistants/ duty managers, not something you want out of an (almost) MINIMUM WAGE job. Often fail to deliver on promises and expect high standards (but dont provide the nessasary resources to achieve those standards verses other retailers).

    Advice to Management

Collegues from head office very rarely get their hands dirty.

I worked at Iceland Foods part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-10% discount (20% for some time near Xmas) -Easy to progress to Duty Manager if you work hard. -Most staff are friendly and make the job more enjoyable. -Iceland pays all staff above the national living wage, regardless of age. (8.33) -Meeting new people -Good job for students (shifts tend to be 4 hours long)

    Cons

Unfortunately, negatives outweigh the positives. -Being planned in for a shift, then given short notice saying that they don't need you in. Many staff rely on hours to pay bills? -Barely get a chance to take your breaks.......due to being understaffed and busy. -Stores don't get enough hours to run the store, so every shift was very demanding and everyone finds themselves doing the job of two people. (putting... stock out, packing home deliveries, covering tills, helping customers etc.) -While already doing many tasks, staff are expected to look out for shoplifting... purely because the company refuses to provide most stores with a security guard unless it is a troubled area. (why so many stores have such high stockloss) -Sometimes being spoken to by the manager in an intimidating and unhelpful manner, usually over something that is not your fault. -Managers only seem to care about themselves and it seems they get to do what they want , everyone else below them get treated poorly with disregard to the persons' feelings or circumstances. -Inconsistent hours each week, one week you could be doing 38 hours... the next week 12 hours. Ideal job for those wanting extra money, but not practical for those who have bills to pay. AND MANY ,MANY MORE CONS

    Advice to Management

Iceland STOP expecting great results, if you don't give enough hours to stores. Many staff stay on unpaid after their shift just to get the work done to avoid getting moaned at the next shift. Also, maybe increase your contracts from 7.5 hours a week, to at least 12 hours. Many staff have left/want to leave due to not getting enough hours.
