I worked at Idaho Power full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This company goes through phases where it is well balanced between personal and professional lives. It is highly focused on the safety of employees and has great wages.

    Cons

Some department leadership has soured the great reputation (read Customer Service) and turned the department from a great group working together to everyone watching their back.

    Advice to Management

Change out the leadership in Customer Service and adopt the attitudes of the regional offices and you'll get great productivity and happy empoyees.

I worked at Idaho Power full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The wage and bonuses are generous. Very competitive salaries. Enjoyed the work.

    Cons

Management doesn't listen to employees. You don't feel heard by management here. Turned into a typical call center job. They don't handle poor performance very well. It's run like a union without union benefits.

I worked at Idaho Power full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Participation in Regional forums. Company invests in its infrastructure = a lot of planning work. Quality employees and teamwork. Good morale.

    Cons

Exec Management appears to have different goals and objectives at times. Communication to rank-and-file could be better.

I have been working at Idaho Power full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Job Security
Competitive Salary for the Boise area
    Ethical Leadership

    Cons

So traditional, sometimes not up with the times.
Touts as work/life balanced, but that is only in some areas.
Depending on what part of the company you are in, you could be held to a much higher standard than everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Cut HR some slack. Continual cutbacks cause employees to feel less valued. Being told you are valuable only goes so far. Being treated as valuable is something different.

    Pros

This is the only Electrical Utility in the State of Idaho.
The Company pays decent salary and provide pretty good benefits package, including pension plan.
    Family-like atmosphere.
This is NOT a Union shop, so no class warfair between Administration/Management and lower level employees.
It is possible to get a promotion if you really want it.
Very competitive - everybody is proud to be a member of a team, so for the most part everything is done fast.
    The Company provides GREAT training.

    Cons

Hardly any, but the benefits could be a bit more competitive as compared to the leaders of the Industry, that have Union run operation (though IMO - unions promote mediocrity, class warfair and stagnation)

    Advice to Management

    Good job!

    Pros

Considering the state of Idaho, Idaho Power is one of the best employers with great benefits. They touch most of southern Idaho so there are a number of locations to work at. The have several sides - electricity supply and generation so there are a number of areas to either start in and/or move to. Has the feel of a large family work environment.

    Cons

Many of the positions are internal and you work in a cubicle. Good pay for Idaho, but not a lot of upside potential. Like anywhere, there are a few supervisors that don't know as much as they should about what their employees really do and challenges they really face. A lot of advancements based on who you know and who you hang with.

    Advice to Management

More advancements based on proven work skills and/or background rather than being part of the club.
