I have been working at Idaho Power full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I have worked in several other companies and Idaho Power is the best. The leadership has high integrity and truly cares about employees. There is great work/life balance and employees are all very supportive of each other. Pay and benefits are very competitive as an overall package.

    Cons

Regulated companies have unique challenges and it isn't for everyone. Historically at times the company was stuck in the mode of maintaining the status quo rather than being open to new ideas or ways of doing things, but that seems to be changing.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on leadership development and not just technical expertise.

I have been working at Idaho Power full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Fine people, dedicated to their work. Excellent pay and benefits.

    Cons

Poor decision makers at the top.

    Advice to Management

Remember the value of a person's contributions. It's what got the company where it is today.

I worked at Idaho Power full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good work/home life balance. Safe work environment/conditions.

    Cons

No matter how many times you relocate for the company, it goes unappreciated. No matter how many years you work for the company, you are easily laid off. Sometimes multiple times. Being an internal applicant, means nothing to IPCO. No camaraderie. HR Dept. will not hesitate to cut your throat or simply avoid direct questions, leaving you to just wonder. HR Dept. will also make the determination for you, as to whether...

    Advice to Management

Genuinely do things like your supposed 'business optimization" and stop wining and dining interns. Actually listen to your employees instead of stroking your egos with saying you want to listen but really you're rolling your eyes. Have some loyalty for the little worker bees that give you their lives and only want a job in return.

    Pros

Good Pay and Benefits, most departments are great to work for.

    Cons

The IT department has a very young management base. Management requires employees to put work above their own lives and families. Salary employees required to work 50 plus hours weekly. Top down management style that takes little or no account for employee opinions and suggestions. They still use a Bi annually employee review system that concentrates on the negative with little or know reward for the outstanding employees.

    Advice to Management

Re structure the entire management tree.

I worked at Idaho Power full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits. Although, the Cons these days seem to outweigh the Pros by a large margin.

    Cons

Job security is a thing of the past. Over the last several years there has been a "cleansing" of many highly experienced managers. This has resulted in a lack of real leadership and much discontent amongst the ranks. Idaho Power used to be an amazing place to work...very desirable. Unfortunately, management has given in to the pressures of "share holder value" in lieu of long term success. I've been solicited to...

    Advice to Management

Get over yourselves. Idaho Power is not your own personal little playground. If you continue to mistreat your employees you can bet that the union will become an attractive option.
