I worked at Idol Minds full-time

I worked at Idol Minds full-time

    Pros

The people are really fun and laid back

    Cons

So some of the bad parts in my experience were a general disorganized attitude and bad planning overall. These people are not good at anticipating deadlines and senior management just stands around pointing fingers at each other about whose fault it is. What that boils down to is longer hours and no weekends for you :C

    Advice to Management

    Take responsibility

I have been working at Idol Minds part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small studio feel which enables everyone to feel fully involved in all aspects of the game projects. Very talented group of individuals that have been able to work on large console games to small mobile games over the past years. Fun and casual feel with very generous benefit packages.

    Cons

The past few years were a struggle for the entire industry. Many small indie developers didn't survive. Nature of the game industry.

    Advice to Management

    Work hard...play hard!!

I worked at Idol Minds full-time

    Pros

Fun laid back environment. Interesting projects. Great talented co-workers.

    Cons

Constant crunching and working late without overtime pay. Layoffs are too common. There is no backup plan in place after projects get cancelled.

    Advice to Management

Stop over promising just to get contracts and then making the workers stay late to do the jobs of the people they can't afford to hire.

I worked at Idol Minds full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Team members and quality of all the staff, Work Environment, Interesting Projects, Size of the company. It was generally just a great place to work. I always looked forward to going to work in the morning.

    Cons

Game Industry - that is the nature of highs and lows with contracts coming in and then getting cancelled due to publishers trying to maintain the books, not because of the quality of the game which were great..

I worked at Idol Minds full-time

    Pros

The dream job, if you are passionate about video-games . Great location and great people. Owner/president is truly talented and experienced in the field. So many exciting projects, really allowing employees experience on the front lines of technology. Really cool place to work, wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

    Cons

Occasional time crunch on projects, as to be expected. The industry inherently unpredictable, so dropped projects and layoffs happen, but this is no fault of the company. Expect the occasional nerf gun assault.

    Advice to Management

    Stay golden

I worked at Idol Minds (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great hiring lead to many lasting friendships. Awesome projects and flexible hours. Being a small studio, Idol Minds possesses the ability to transition employees should a project falter, this is a VERY good thing to be able to do in the games industry.

    Cons

Be prepared to work weekends. This is not a problem with Idol Minds, this is just the way the industry works.

Not a lot of out of work activities lead by management. If you want culture, you have to make it!

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees more, and be willing to spend more time with them, not just hovering at their desk. There are benefits to being a small company, use these benefits to your advantage!

I worked at Idol Minds full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People there are great work around. Diverse range of projects. Art style, tech, and type of genre.

    Cons

Very very poor planning. This has lead to numerous amounts of cancellations of many games. Most of the time you"ll be lucky even to release a game and have credit. Pay is at average to mediocre. Don't expect to be rewarded if you work hard.

    Advice to Management

Fix planning and lock down projects!
