I have been working at Ikon Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People. They hire amazingly talented and inspiring people who become your family

    Cons

The party culture, the cliques, HR department doesn't care about this and doesn't help to make the agency more diverse.
HR have actively fired/made redundant people who do not fit in by looking for reasons to fire without any real evidence or justification.
No respect in other teams/department processes
    no clear career progression
force you to take your annual leave during Christmas, instead of having them seperate (you get 4 weeks a year, 2 weeks are for Christmas/new years so really you only get 2 weeks.)
refuse to give annual salary reviews (the salary gap between the low/middle tier and the upper management is ridiculously large) and if you fight hard enough they take forever to process and they refuse to back pay you.

    Advice to Management

Sort your selves out. You don't use value your employees by utilising them and embracing their talents and contributions. You are losing employees due to the way you mistreat them. If you treated them better by giving them resources to work with, a salary that is actually above award, and make good on the promises you made when hiring, the turn around for employees will lower.
When an employee leaves, the cost of search, hiring, training a replacement costs 2.5x more than if you had just given them a reason to stay (read above)

I have been working at Ikon Communications full-time

    Pros

    Good company culture
Access to a wide variety of services and SBU's

    Cons

Tight budgets when it comes to equipment (computer upgrades needed asap!)
Typical among media agencies however unwilling to negotiate salary increases

    Pros

Adopts the work hard, play hard mantra where there are constantly events, activities and parties.

    Cons

Would love to see management recognise and reward those who work hard. Senior management also need to find time to listen to the feedback from the staff but often staff are afraid to pass on constructive feedback.

I worked at Ikon Communications (More than a year)

    Pros

Ikon has a brilliant history and heritage and it has managed to keep much of its culture despite many years of upheaval and change. The people there are smart and genuine on the whole.

    Cons

Media is going through a nasty wake up call as the media model breaks down. Ikon as the biggest local Australian Media Agency is feeling that pain more than anyone else - particularly in Sydney and Melbourne - as it does not have the protection of a global network to underpin the business. STW Group as the holding company is all over it like a rash.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing...the strategy to transform and integrate new services into the core media offering is right.

I worked at Ikon Communications full-time

    Pros

Without doubt once of the best office locations in Sydney - the view is outstanding
Very qualified and experienced senior management
    Reward and recognise great work
    Good work/life balance
Free yoga, breakfast and Friday drinks
    Healthy remuneration

    Cons

Commute - despite the benefits of the view, it's not easy to get to work
Top heavy - not enough mid and lower level staff to deal with the workload
Lost - Ikon has had a tough 2 years of change and loss of clients. There's been many re-structures and they've now switched to a full-service model. While the market requires it, there needs to be some clear leadership and vision about where this is going.

    Advice to Management

Clearly articulate to staff the values and vision. People need to have direction and know the meaning behind why they're doing something.
