    Pros

Pay is good when compared to other jobs that offer insurance. Starts with 2 weeks vacation per year, 12 sick days a year plus 3 personal days. The time off is desperately needed after all the constant overtime.

    Cons

Horrible days off, constantly forced double shifts. Older nurses are childish, will try to get others in trouble, sometimes other nurses will hide charts to make others have a bad day or run behind, most days you will not get a break and it is never paid.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more

    Pros

Great pay for the work. Almost unlimited overtime, great benefits and pension. Union benefits and upward mobility. Paid academy. Good way to get in the door.

    Cons

Management is completely reactionary and doesn't care at all about your safety. If you don't have prior law enforcement or military experience, do not apply.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Illinois Department of Corrections (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay. Benefits. Learn time management

    Cons

The people you work with. Everything is political and your daily job assignments are based off of who your friends with and who you kiss up to. Not a good place for people with degrees who want to do a lot more with your life. This job is definitely not for everyone. Work with some of the most lazy people around. Dealing with your coworkers is almost as bad as dealing with the inmates. Most of the time you have inmates telling you how your suppose to do your job because your coworkers dont want to help.

    Advice to Management

Be approachable. Actually help your employees when we clearly are askig for your help. Stop being so LAZY and do your job.
