I worked at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learning a new location and seeing the possibilities of what I can do to get the campus rocking, following the Meis plan and watching the changes happen! and working with the students were fun

    Cons

Mid management was a joke. Everything done last minute or too late {Reactive). Did't follow industry standards on anything having to do with the landscape season. Thinks like blowing out the sprinkler system by the end of September, but ,no, we waited until the first snow and made it a whole lot of fun. Plus,l wonder how many pipes are damaged since we waited? Probably $10,000 in damage, mid managers hand book was You Tube video, plus, he didn't have a clue if it worked at all. In addition to this craziness, I started asking for salt in early September and it finally arrived a day after the snow event.

The crew is totally afraid of a management, they would promise the world and they do not follow through with anything. They use quilt and anger to run the crews. Finally, something to remember, This management does not care of your home life! So, if you have an issue good luck leaving.

    Advice to Management

Clean house! Bring in people who want to work and enjoy the benefits of a wonderful paycheck

I worked at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

So many interesting things going on in campus: research, innovation, events. Loved translating the cool stuff tech faculty and students were doing so the general public could get excited about it too.

    Cons

Despite the university being known for being on the cutting edge of invention and innovation, their business and management practices resembled those of the 1930s.

    Advice to Management

Consider using modern business management practices to more fully utilize the wealth of know-how your staff (and faculty) have to offer.
