    This job provides great benefits and salary. The work is sometimes mundane but also interesting.

    Cons

    The schedule is similar to that of law enforcement and firefighters which leaves the work/home balance a little tricky to maintain.

    Cons

    Understaffed, underfunded, high turnover, very limited advancement opportunities, low morale, poor leadership, high stress work environment, little investment in career development/technology, lack of long term planning, below average facilities, lack of transparency, and ever changing SOPs/evaluation criteria.

    It's Illinois, a very political state. It's police department isn't any different.

    Well organized, funded, and supported agency. Felt confident with level of training to do my job effectively. Work was meaningful.

    Cons

    Agency under the State of Illinois. Adequate staffing was an issue at times. Budget, contract negotiations, red tape were barriers to running a successful operation.

    I have been working at Illinois State Police full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great people, strong mission, flexible schedule, generous time off, decent salary, free secured parking which is a huge benefit when working in the city of Chicago.

    Cons

    Innovation is non existent, they want ideas but will not take initiative to attempt to implement them. Mid level supervisors have poor people skills. Division is underfunded and understaffed. No attempt to give incentives to retain valuable staff
