I have been working at Illinois State (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall a good place to work.

    Cons

Parking is expensive. Dental insurance is practically useless since the provider isn't more than a year behind in paying, meaning no dentist will take it.

    Advice to Management

Get the issue of Dental Insurance fixed, and now. It is unacceptable that we can't get dental work done due to no dentist accepting our insurance.

    Pros

    Flexible Hours
    Excellent Work Environment
    Management Invested in Worker Happiness

    Cons

Occasionally, there is a lack of perceived discipline amongst the other student workers.. which isn't necessarily a bad thing, flexibility in disciplinary action relative to the individual can be positive for all

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, it was a privilege to be able to work with everyone in this department

I worked at Illinois State part-time

    Pros

Very flexible on work hours as far as classes go.
Casual dress in most places and never expected to put work above classes.
Great places to make friends and network outside of classrooms.

    Cons

Hard to get a job with thousands of other students also applying.
Wages are low and barely enough for those who have no other choice as far as paying for tuition, books, rent, or other bills.

I worked at Illinois State (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone worked together in a communicative manner that helped develop a wonderful workplace. Each day was a pleasure to work with my coworkers. They were all very friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Sometimes would be sitting around with nothing to work on. There was no real ways to advance due to the job being designed for a part-time working student. It felt that management was out of touch with how we operated.

    Advice to Management

Take suggestions from your employees on possible improvements to the work environment as well as day to day student activities.

    Pros

Illinois State Athletics provides a positive work environment and great communication among different departments. With sports such as football doing well, it is a winning environment to work in.

    Cons

While working for athletics a common problem is fear of change. We tend to do things one way are afraid to branch out to try new things. While some new ideas are accepted, others may be turned down.

    Advice to Management

My biggest advice would be to continue the open communication among departments and employees. As previously mentioned, do not fear change and trying new ideas.

I worked at Illinois State part-time

    Pros

They are a medium seized university that feels like a small one. In other words, it is easy to meet and get to know co-workers and other members of the organization. People are very supportive and always helping the graduate assistants if they need it. Welcoming environment

    Cons

The pay is decent but not excellent. They could be better about training programs as a whole university. I think working her depends on the department in terms of culture and the overall employee experience. It would be better if thet were able to pay a higher amount or give better raises.
