I have been working at Illumina full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of vacation time, great work-life balance, on-site gym, great benefits overall. In my 10+ year career, it's really the first company where I felt senior management really does care about employees. Several VPs I've seen, including mine, sit at a cubicle just like everyone else (albeit they are nicer, they're still cubes and they sit right by everyone else). The CEO himself seems like he really cares about the people that work there.

The company is constantly finding ways to grow morale and the community feeling, such as encouraging clubs to form, providing time off each year to volunteer, matching donations to charities, scheduling food trucks to come on campus every day, fitness center with trainers that will provide you workout plans, farmer's markets on campus, concerts, movie nights, etc. Honestly, I've never worked with so many happy people and it's clear the company encourages a work-life balance. There are several occasions or holidays where people bring their kids on campus to participate in events (like the Halloween maze!).

The company's mission to improve human health is real and a lot of people I've worked with genuinely believe in it and are motivated by it. It made me a believer! The management team I work under is smart, demanding but fair, and truly care about morale.

    Cons

Some corporate dysfunction between departments, career path can be unclear. There are always issues with employees or management in one department or another, but nothing that is really systemic or out of the ordinary.

Change is pretty rapid when it happens as the company is growing pretty fast. This can sometimes make for unclear or contradictory directives, and back filling positions can take some time.

Sick days are lumped in with PTO which is not my ideal, it just leads to people never actually taking a sick day even when they're truly ill.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Every month there's news of some new event, perk or benefit to working here and I know it doesn't happen by magic. There are people constantly working to make the people who work here happy and it really shows.

Maybe a more generous sick day policy?

I have been working at Illumina full-time

    Pros

The company is truly focused around it's mission statement. Rewarding job being part of something world changing. The top level leadership stays focused on creating real products and real value in the world.

    Cons

Company is coming out of the growth phase and into a more sustaining corporation. This comes with a lot of growing pains, VP level management can sometimes be disorganized, and more concerned with internal office politics than doing the right thing for the company.

I have been working at Illumina full-time

    Pros

expect to receive very close deadlines. Efficient time management is a must.
Managers expect a lot out of you but are also concerned with your growth.
Company keeps managers in check by doing multiple surveys for employees to voice their opinions.

    Cons

Have to get used to last minute notices.
Company direction seems to be faltering at times.

    Advice to Management

Illumina started off strong with a precise goal. The company seems to be diversifying too much these days.
    Great managerial relations though.

I have been working at Illumina full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company is in a position to change the way disease is studied and diagnosed more than any other.
-Fantastic technology for DNA sequencing, headed for the $100 genome
    -People are smart and helpful
-New management hires are really great

    Cons

-It's run as the biggest little start-up in the world. A bit of tension between the old timers who don't want anything to change and the new hires coming in with new ideas and the need to scale
-Engineering hardware driven. So other functions that contribute to product success (marketing, software, ops) sometimes feel like things are thrown over the fence to them
-Management doesn't prioritize so sometimes there is overload

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to make decisions about priorities.
