Pros
Very fast paced place to work with a lot of opportunity to learn. Everyone is very open making it easy to learn new roles.
Cons
Not very many opportunities to move up as they tend to hire out even for management roles.

Illumina has an amazing mission and people are true to the company values. The pace is fast but this fuels innovation and collaboration. The people who work here are smart, caring and fun. Open to hearing and acting on ideas from any level of employee.
Cons
Some systems and processes are clunky so it can be hard to get some simple tasks done efficiently. Still learning how to be an awesome global company vs an awesome San Diego company. Working on better focus and prioritization but making progress.

Pros
Illumina values team members and works hard to create an inclusive team environment. While projects move fast the team works well to support each other and make sure nobody is left behind. Flexible scheduling and time off valuing the needs of the workers not just focused on meeting project goals but longevity of team.
Cons
Fast paced working environment which can become hectic at times but there is always team member support if it becomes too much.

Amazing mission and culture

I am so thankful for the opportunity Illumina has provided me. I feel fortunate to be a part of a company that is transforming healthcare and redefining how people will be treated and diagnosed. Some of the pros for me include: - Growth opportunity - We are scaling at a fast pace which provides various opportunities to grow whether that be vertical or horizontal - People - Since I spend more time at work than I do with my family, the people I interact with on a daily basis is very important to me. At Illumina, you will find very dedicated and passionate people. You will not find the hero mentality here. We succeed as a team and fail as a team. It is an extremely collaborative and open environment where people are truly passionate about everyone succeeding and Illumina realizing its mission. - Benefits - We are setting the bar in terms of the type of benefits we provide our employees. As an example, we provide the innovative benefits around issues related to undiagnosed disease and cancer through our genome access program. We also offer amazing benefits related to reproductive health. Equity: Most of the positions are equity eligible at Illumina. This allows employees to have company ownership and be directly rewarded for impacts they made to the company. As we continue to innovate and launch new products, our stock continues to grow and this provides more income to our employees. Mission: There are a lot of great companies people can choose to work for but the mission at Illumina is in my opinion one of the most powerful. Having children and knowing that my efforts will provide them a better life in the future is extremely rewarding for me. Pace of Change: People at Illumina always talk about the fast pace. I think it feels this way due to the amount of change we experience. For me, I really like this aspect as it offers opportunities to continue to learn new things and get excited about new markets and opportunities. Ability to Build: Given our growth, Illumina provides the opportunity to build. This includes building teams, improving processes, building functions, etc.
Cons
While Illumina has a long list of pros, there are always potential cons. For me, these include: - Illumina tends to fund people vs technology solutions that will really move the needle in becoming more innovative in terms of how we do things. - The pace of change is not for everyone. People that like to have everything stay the same (org structures, systems, market focus, etc.) may not like it here. It really is a personal preference and choice. - The expectation of people coming here and being builders may not be for everyone. People that prefer an environment where they are maintaining existing processes may not like the culture.

Smart people doing good work in a fast paced environment. Expectations are high but people are willing to help as needed.
Cons
The culture is fast-change is a constant and that can be disorienting to a lot of people. Illumina is a huge company with a wealth a internal information and learning how and where that information is stored can be a strugle.
