Good on some films, bad on others

      Pros

Working with incredibly smart people who know their jobs. A solid well supported pipeline with some of the best tools in the industry. Good pay (in the past), and fair benefits. A great place to learn and grow as a VFX artist (in the past) Decent hours and paid overtime. Grownups with families can work here.

      Cons

If you are on a VFX film, there will be some huge egos. Poor to fair producers who are terrible at planning the front-end of production. Unhealthy competition between doltish CG Sups who are all clawing for recognition and stabbing each other in the back for advancement. No advancement based on merit - need to be a maneuvering politico.

      Pros

Great people Good projects Good pay Overall a very cool environment

      Cons

Last few years there is a big shift in moving a lot of the work to Canada. Not imageworks' fault, but the entire vfx/animation industry is in growing pains now, and it can be felt all across.

great people and technology, astonishingly poor executive management, murky future

      Pros

Great camaraderie amongst rank and file artists (but many have left). Incredible learning opportunities from some of the sharpest creative and technical people in the industry. Good pay, OK benefits (getting worse though), nice location. Great place to be if you are new in the industry, just make sure you have a job lined up for when your production is over.

      Cons

Sadly, what has been said here before is very true. There was a time when Imageworks was the place to be if you wanted to work on both feature animation and visual effects. Those days are ending, as we simply cannot compete against Disney/Dreamworks in animation, and the tax-incentives foreign countries are passing out in visual effects. Many of these factors are out of the company's control. But the nail in the coffin is our astonishingly weak management. While there has been some well needed house cleaning of mid to upper-management, the facility is hopelessly lacking in creative leadership and artist management. There are murky plans for upcoming productions, but the recent exodus of talent and serious nose-dive in morale will make working on these shows (if greenlit) very, very unsatisfactory.

      Better than most.

      Pros

Treated better than most places (which is kind of sad). Good benefits. Good projects. Work is usually high quality. Good pay for some. Most people are very nice. Tools are good. Office is a good location. Better organized than most places.

      Cons

Very corporate. You'll likely be overworked. They have trouble winning bids because of race to the bottom nature of VFX. You'll probably get sick a lot if you're like me.

Has potential, but lacks a personal touch

      Pros

      - Great people - Innovative history - Good pay and benefits - Free snacks and coffee

      Cons

      - Super cold and impersonal workplace - Projects are all regurgitations (sequels) and not very exciting - Management doesn't really go out on the floor and mingle with the people - Very corporate - Bad attitudes in employees isn't dealt with, but rather poked fun at, instead of making the hard decisions to get in better people

      Pros

Short hours, good pay. I think the mean well.

      Cons

A soul-less, passion-less place. If you care about your work there's no place for you here. If you're prepared to coast and don't care about the poor quality of the work or terrible inefficiency of the pipeline, then you'll probably get promoted.
