I worked at Imageworks full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Co workers are great, best benefits, nice environment, good projects. They used to have great extracurricular activities that made it a fun place to work.

    Cons

Moved most of staff to Vancouver. You never feel completely at ease and safe because you are always waiting to hear bad news. Hours can be grueling.

    Advice to Management

Care more about morale and retaining your talent.

    "Working at Imageworks"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Culver City, CA

I worked at Imageworks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Usually good benefits, good people, they have a great lot to visit for lunch, good gym facilities on the lot if you want to use them.

    Cons

Unfortunately, most of their jobs have been moved to their Vancouver facility. Only supervisor level for most jobs are left in Los Angeles.

    Advice to Management

How about a little loyalty to people who have worked for your company for many years? Sometimes the cheapest talent actually costs you more.

I have been working at Imageworks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good environment with competitive salaries. Probably the only good perk of being at the Culver location? A nice campus.

    Cons

Lots of changes going on, it feels like the Culver office doesn't get as much attention. There aren't as many perks as the Vancouver office.

    Advice to Management

    spread the joy!

I worked at Imageworks for less than a year

    Pros

This place had great content to work on. The supervisors were very intelligent and amiable. The salaries were also good. When in the final push, production was very good about showing appreciation with various food trucks or other little goodies. That made the workplace happy and subsequently people were motivated.

    Cons

Thanks to the tax incentives this company has essentially closed up shop in Culver City. Perhaps they are good to work for in Vancouver, however, bear in mind the cost of living difference before you pack your bags.

    Advice to Management

If you are able to get work awarded in Culver City I imagine you will find that the remaining senior talent would gladly return.

I have been working at Imageworks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of employee perks, great benefits, exciting work being done, the people are incredibly talented

    Cons

Unless you move to Vancouver, there isn't a lot of growth potential even if you've been around for a long time (production mostly)

I worked at Imageworks full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Intelligent and motivated people abound. Huge learning and growth opportunities. Great sense of community and corporate culture.

    Cons

It has been on the decline for a few years. They have had trouble securing good work and retaining good clients. The majority of positions have been relocated to their Vancouver office.

    Advice to Management

Show support for employees by helping try to end the subsidies that have rocked the industry. Help try to make California a competitive place for making VFX. Publicize your efforts.

I worked at Imageworks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good tools, used to be in LA, Culver city is a great place to have lunch

    Cons

They liquidated all of the jobs they could and moved thier headquarters out if the country. With the insane rents in Vancouver it makes more sence to just stay here and go into VR or video games. Vfx is a sinking ship that Sony is doing thier best to put at the bottom of the ocean.

    Advice to Management

Stop laying off your top employees, and trying to save pennies. If you want to make money at feature animation or vfx you have to actually do good work, and that cost money, and requires real veteran artists
