I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time

    Pros

Startup mentality. Things are fast paced and diverse. I never feel like I'm stuck on a project that drags on. Nice work environment in downtown San Francisco.

    Cons

Because of the startup feel, often times there is not a whole lot of code reviews. Sometimes it feels as though we are more concerned with getting a product out the door than writing correct code.

    Advice to Management

Consider creating more time for code reviews. I like to think of my job as also being a learning experience and occasionally I feel as though I am not getting a whole lot of feedback on my work.

I worked at Imagination Technologies full-time

    Pros

they hire a lot of young, inexperienced engineers, so if you're a young, inexperienced engineer, you'll meet a lot of people like you there.

    Cons

low pay for engineers (however, some sales staff drive very exotic cars, so that may not be true for them.) micromanagement, lots of bureaucracy and politics. offices all over with management in KL, lots and lots of new graduates. US office seems like it's only there for H1Bs or a perk for UK employees to live in the US. one would probably have a more enjoyable career at almost any other company you can name... not to mention the worthless playmoney stock.

    Advice to Management

why not just close all US offices and move operations directly to india?

    Pros

    fresh design work
    not a huge company

    Cons

IT infrastructure needs much improvement. They are working on it.

    Advice to Management

Get your US employees working harder. There is a decided lack of motivation in some departments, it seems.

Work from home should be treated as follows.....
You can have work from home, but not on Monday or Friday (seems to blend into a long wknd).
work-from-home is a privilege. You should be able to come into the office on those days. For any recurring weekly work-from-home day, there should be an automatic program that with some probability (maybe 10%, but manager could set), will reject the work-from-home and send email that worker should go in that day. (Too many folks act like they are entitled to it and are inflexible. When I hear a meeting that is going to be set up and someone says "Oh, that is my work from home day, and the mtg gets pushed out, it makes me want to become manager and kick some butt. With some random roll of the dice that work-from-home may be retracted at any time, every work-from-home-er knows that they might have to go into work that day and they don't plan a day full of errands. It'll keep ppl on their toes.) Face-to-face communication is very important. Yahoo did the right thing by reeling in work-from-home.

There is talk the IMG is too tight on salaries. IMG-US has lost some stellar people in the US, afaik.

    Pros

Management team provides clear, visionary message to employees. Ample opportunities for career and professional growth with industry leader. Roadmap and expectations to achieve goals were clearly articulated.

    Cons

Compensation was below industry standard, especially long term incentive plan. Autocratic cultural values disempowered middle management. Support staffing was uncomfortably lean and seemed close to burnout.

    Advice to Management

Compare compensation and health benefits with Silicon Valley industry norm.
