I worked at Immersion Corporation full-time

    Pros

    Mostly regular 40 hour weeks.

    Cons

    There was terrible inter-departmental communication

    Advice to Management

Job security breeds pride, breeds quality workforce. Random house-cleanings are destabilizing, not useful.

    Pros

The people there were very smart. Everyone wanted to work super hard to make good things happen. The benefits were great.

    Cons

The leadership didn't seem to have a vision other than creating patents and then protecting them. When they acquired the medical simulation company they didn't seem to know how to foster and grow that business into what it could have been.

    Advice to Management

Put all of those patents to use and actually build some products. Assess the market and actually take some risks.

    Cons

Very less collaboration, people rarely talk to each other

    Pros

The products are very cool and fun to work on, the big picture objective of improving medical training is one that makes it easier to come to work on Mondays. Because it's a small company, there are lots of opportunities to work on things outside your official job title. The overall compensation package is pretty good for a small company. Many of the individual contributors and middle management are smart, dedicated employees who really care about the projects and people working on them.

    Cons

Senior management is new and treats the employees like commodities. As of early 2009 they are laying off lots of people, including many valuable contributors. The long term planning seems non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job training / mentoring your existing employees prior to terminating them. You have shed a lot of great talent since Clent came on board. Spend more time on long range planning and communicating those plans to the employees. Start making more decisions based on the long range goals of the company rather than quarter to quarter.

    Pros

Exciting technology and application areas spanning many industry sectors and use cases. Global customer base and exposure to next gen products and services. Strong on IP and close to the touch screen revolution happening everywhere.

    Cons

Very HQ centric. Small organization but feels like blue chip in processes and culture. Still early days for touch applications in terms of consumer use cases

    Advice to Management

Invest more in developer ecosystems. Work on creating more of an open, collaborative startup culture across the organization, with wider participation in innovation
