    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The benefits are very good

    Cons

Latest senior management don’t seem to care about giving retired employees a periodic pension increase. It has been over 15 years since our last increase, yet they continue to make billions!

    Advice to Management

Please review the pensions of retirees employees. We have not had an increase in our pensions for at least 15 years or more.
Cost of living keeps increasing and it is more and more stressful to keep up.

    Pros

Great people, amazing salary and benefits and job security was a plus. Nice to be a part of a global organization as opportunities are available for high performers,

    Cons

Your career path and enjoyment all depends on your management. Extremely hierarchical and process / policy oriented; not a lot of autonomy.

I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Large organization, lots of opportunities
    Great benefits package
    Employment stability

    Cons

Luck of the draw can determine internal growth
    Archaic ranking system
    Too afraid to do anything

    Advice to Management

The work environment has shifted in the last decade, cannot continue on the principles from 30 years ago. Need to reevaluate value proposition.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, company considered employer of choice in the town where I worked

    Cons

It's the oil biz. Up today, down tomorrow. Way down today, maybe up tomorrow. Got tired of the swings and moved to a less volatile industry.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course, most employees are happy with the status quo. There is not a whole lot of options to buffer against industry swings.

I worked at Imperial Oil as an intern

    Pros

Great place to work really supportive people and great opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Sometimes might feel like you're not making enough impact, but you have to be proactive.

    Advice to Management

Have more one-on-one meetings with interns to address any issues or concerns and discuss growth.

I worked at Imperial Oil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Opportunities for personal improvement
    - The company is willing to move employees to new business groups if requested
    - Coffee, tea, juice, and soft drinks were available for free

    Cons

    - Competitive work environment, both within work groups and between them, to the point that it can sometimes breed enmity/barriers to success.
    - Work hour expectations are about 10% more than what is paid, but timesheets make it difficult to record this without affecting project budgets, but if one wishes to leave early one day then the work hours appear to not be met. (Salaried positions)

    Pros

Stable, secure employment. Decent pay, they definitely stick to the 75th percentile. But will always be in business.

    Cons

Probably not that exciting, very conservative.

    Advice to Management

Do not reward the overachievers, they are actually counter productive to the team.
