    Pros

Good pay. Lots of opportunities if mobile to undesirable locations.
    Top notch benefits.

    Cons

Constant job rotation so you never become proficient.
Working at operating site is a constant grind. Always fighting fires versus real improvements

    Advice to Management

None. They are great most of the time. Annual review process is demotivating.

    Pros

Coworkers and management were really great to work with. Pay wasn't bad.

    Cons

Repetitive work. Some days it was really slow so had to keep yourself busy.

    Advice to Management

No advice. I had no complaints.

I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good salary and benefits
    Some flexible hours options

    Cons

Your career path is completely at your manager's discretion. Very little opportunity for development if you aren't an engineer.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to develop their own careers.
    Value employees without engineering degrees

I worked at Imperial Oil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Generous salary compared to industry standards
    Fair performance evaluation cycle
A lot of opportunity for company paid development - attend courses, seminars, university course/programs, etc.
Opportunity to move around the company in various roles.

    Very strong company culture
Quality of employees and managers are high

    Cons

Performance cycle is based on 4 categories. Even if you are an exceptional employee, but there are 3 more employees who are more exceptional than you, you can end up in the 4th category, which puts to closer to termination is performance is not improved.

Physical location is inconvenient now. Located in Quarry Park. If you live in the NW then commute is very inconvenient. Shortest commuting time, if there is no traffic, is 45minutes.

I worked at Imperial Oil full-time

    Pros

Decent pay was a pro when Bruce March was still CEO. After that any increases were cut with the statement ‘’You need to be glad working for such a great company’’.
The parent monster ExxonMobil assures the stability, which makes the company virtually imperishable.

    Cons

Once management was changed there are only promises left and ‘’motivational’’ talks. Management trying to brainwash you from the early start date so you would stay loyal and not move anywhere else. Poor work-life balance, as you are very encouraged to work overtime and expected to take remote assignments to move the career ladder (you hope). You are also expected to take your cell phone everywhere with you to answer emails while travelling and even during vacation.
The environment is very bureaucratic with bunch of outdated policies that make lots of work you do idle. No promotion should be expected for years and years. Ranking system is just a joke – you are not in any control of you rankings independent of what you have accomplished. It all comes to how vocal your supervisor becomes during the annual review. People you work with are competitors in the shark tank, not partners at work.
Good manager is a great luck, but Imperial likes shuffling the managers so I had five different ones within a few years with the company.
This year they move everybody from downtown to newly built open-space office in Quarry Park. Commuting there is just terrible. No privacy in the office and everyone can hear every word you said on the phone. Two bosses who were the most obsessed proponents and advocates for the move to a fish tank suddenly retired the first day of move showing excellent example of rotten work ethics at the company.
And yes, there are massive layoffs contrary to what CEO was proclaiming about the ‘’bright future’’.

    Advice to Management

Respect and value people who work for you. Presently, there are only beautiful words behind your talks, no actions.

    Pros

As long as you are willing to ask for work you can do anything (any project you like). Easy to get hired back if you are willing to work hard.

    Cons

Absolutely none! Some co-workers complain about working too much -- you do need to work average 10 hours/day, but I think it's nothing compare to other companies.

    - good future outlook, especially with Exxon backing

    Cons

    - no downsides, sometimes there are more procedures than necessary

    Advice to Management

    Good work!

I worked at Imperial Oil (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company has great policies in every aspect, performance and results, work culture, and safety. I felt very welcomed, supported, and eager to do my best. This is one of the few companies that does treat its employees as one of its biggest assets, not to mention salary and benefits are also really really good.

    Cons

There was an individual who harassed me for a bit, but my teammates and supervisor intervened very promptly and solved the issue; they were very attentive- so problem solved, but I would have appreciated if it did not happen at all, other than that, no complaints!

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do :)

    Cons

    - Teams are somewhat isolated from each other

    Advice to Management
