I worked at Imperial Tobacco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Loyal employees, sense of camaraderie, fantastic benefits, nice working environment. Is committed to its workforce

    Cons

Senior managers don't model the organizational values

Trying to drive a shift in culture and as part of this have removed the really good HR operational team that used to be in place whilst moving to a shared service model, this hasn't been smooth and saw some really strong people leave the business..

    Pros

Culture is sensational, so many internal opportunities, great travel, fantastic colleagues

    Cons

Nothing really that I can think of as a serious negative point - opportunities are there if you want them.

I have been working at Imperial Tobacco (More than a year)

    Pros

    Easy working atmosphere,

    Nice people to work with.

Full time staff have decent benefits.

    Cons

Management don't really plan very well.
No-one ever knows what's going on
    Communication is lacking

    Advice to Management

Don't spend so much time changing small things,

spend more time planning and less time reacting to the unexpected.

I worked at Imperial Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent salaries, challening work and issues

    Cons

Very poor management and employee engagement. Continual restructuring leads to lack of security.

    Advice to Management

Respect employees more when dealing with restructuring. Better people management training for leaders. Nail down a long term strategy rather than constant change and firefighting.

I worked at Imperial Tobacco as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team members and a family-like attitude. We'd help each other when needed and really back each others backs, there was a gym on-site alongside a running track and astro-turf. The food in the restaurant was also great value.

    Cons

When I handed in my notice my Team Leader started to get very unprofessional and it ruined the whole experience for me, personally.

    Advice to Management

Don't get angry at an employee/contractor for handing in their notice. It's business, nothing personal.

    Pros

    - open, friendly atmosphere
    - work with great, talented, kind, downtoearth people
    - very international
    - generous benefit for expats

    Cons

    - lately cost down has changed everything
    - good people are leaving
    - too much politics left in HQ & no real inspiration from either works or leadership

    Advice to Management

too far away from reality, markets

    Pros

Good benefits, colleagues and is a "small" enough international company so you can make a real contribution

    Cons

No real cons at the company

    Advice to Management

Management seem very competent and the company is going in the right direction. Perhaps a little less short term thinking

I worked at Imperial Tobacco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary for a workplace that requires you to show up and not care about the company, but only to make sure your work looks good and have friends say good nice things about you.

    Cons

Company is not moving, your career could, but the head office is eating itself from the inside out. Many incompetent people in HR, setting a low bar for new hires without any direction. People are complacent and clueless and in the majority. Change management is drastically needed, acknowledged, but not down. Only firefighting symptoms to make it look like the best in class, instead of addressing the problems and fixing it.

    Advice to Management

Stop inflating the share price to line your pockets, it is already not sustainable. Stop appeasing your senior management with flashy titles and money, make them work for it. Stop focusing on the big things or heritage that used to make you money, and just work on the basics and cooperation. There is not even an IBP or proper S&OP in this organisation.
