    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Imperial Tobacco Canada full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good pay (despite the cuts), great incentives (company vehicle, phone, health benefits etc), great sales force team and (mostly) management.

    Cons

Huge disconnect between the field and head office. Communication issues, highly disorganized head office, a dying industry produces a feeling of desperation and a negative working environment. Increased pressure to take on sales tactics that could make one uncomfortable, and negative repercussions for voicing ones opinion.

I worked at Imperial Tobacco Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great opportunity for entry level sales. Gained hands-on negotiation, business development and presentation experience.

    Cons

Directions from head office not always clear and concise. Executing programs in the field could be difficult depending on timing, competition. Shift to automating sales and increasing territory sizes led greater call count with less value added by reps

I worked at Imperial Tobacco Canada

    Pros

Great place to work. Small office in the West Island. I got to know the sales managers extremely well and help on several projects.

    Cons

Wasn't near the head office. I felt very separate from the corporate culture.

I have been working at Imperial Tobacco Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Wonderful learning opportunities while you are young in ITCAN brands, insights, commercial deployment and with customers. Good employees who work hard with what they can to push for results and innovation. Opportunity to grow your business and people skills (which are highly valued).

    Cons

Unfortunately management is disjointed, uncertain and lacking transparency. There is a bigger picture in this organization that many jobs lack transparency of, especially the trade jobs (TMAR & District Managers). However, head office is just as unclear on the path for many things. This is a reactive company in a declining market. They are reactive in both their plans and their development of employees. They have a long way to go in making employees feel comfortable, secure and driven recently.

I have been working at Imperial Tobacco Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Great company culture to work in -1st in class compensation package; high salary in comparison to other consumer package goods companies in the marketplace -Company car, gas card, lunch allowance and various other expenses all covered -Variable pay component is outstanding, as well as the year end bonus -90% autonomy -Very little micro managing from DM and other authority figures -On the road, if that's your thing -Laid back atmosphere, you have the control to set the tone

    Cons

-On the road, if it's not your thing -Can be lonely, as 90% of the time you are by yourself roaming the streets going store to store -Not that much interaction face-to-face with your peers -Head Office is in Montreal, all corporate positions located at the HO so if relocation is not in your cards then you are stuck with a sales job -How to achieve Career advancement still unclear, no defined process or steps in place -Dealing with retailers with language barriers is common, especially in urban markets
