    I have been working at In-Shape Health Clubs part-time

    Pros

    Flexible hours, you can work more than scheduled members are great and hard working. Fitness instructor coworkers are awesome to work with, staff is friendly.As an employee you get a free membership. Family at a discount . But still not cheap I pay $170 a month for my family to attend platinum club.

    Cons

    As a group exercise instructor you are underpaid. It does not seem fair that new instructors come in making almost the same amount as an experienced instructor with more certifications and higher skill level. I have been working at Inshape for over 7 years. I have only had one raise and one performance evaluation. In that department management and corporate is lacking.

    Advice to Management

    New gyms are coming to Visalia. I recommend that you start paying attention to this department. Also you need to compensate for past years, for non raises and performance evaluations. IN Any gym the group exercise Department is why you have 80% retention of members.

    I worked at In-Shape Health Clubs full-time

    Pros

    Free membership, a paycheck and getting paid on-time.

    Cons

    Constantly doing things backwards without thinking, having a management who is not qualified to run the place thus causing a lawsuit. No attention paid to staff who make suggestions because they assume you're not fit.

    Advice to Management

    Executive management...Fire anyone who has been with the company more than 7 years. They are not forward thinkers and are hurting the company. Just because someone has worked for you for years doesn't mean they are doing a good job. 3 million dollars to pay out for a lawsuit is an expensive price to pay for poor management. Take my advice and clean house!!!!

    I have been working at In-Shape Health Clubs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Free gym membership for all locations
    * Some office staff are great
    * Monthly corporate-wide events
    * Very member-focused

    Cons

    * Very low pay
    * Poor healthcare options (both are Anthem and both are expensive)
    * No PTO
    * Only 4-5 holidays off
    * Office location and parking for regular employees are unsafe
    * Some department managers bad mouth other departments
    * Employees are treated as though they are expendable
    * Revenue is top priority
    * HR department is unorganized and unethical
    * Large amount of favoritism
    * Lack of communication
    * Executives are blind to what is happening "behind the scenes"
    * Positive feedback is rare
    * Extremely high turnover rate

    Advice to Management

    To the Executive Officers,

    Hold quarterly to annual performance reviews (not the yearly survey) for employees and management, and actually pay attention to what is reported...The majority of your employees are very unhappy with the company and are looking for something better

    I worked at In-Shape Health Clubs (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Loved meeting new people everyday, working with great co-workers, and living a healthy lifestyle.

    Cons

    The pay didn't match the amount of work required of staff

    Advice to Management

    To upper management: Listen to the people who work within the gyms every day and see if their wants and needs are met. I understand the customer always comes first, and decisions are made based on customers wants and needs, but make sure those who are really serving those customers on a day-to-day basis are taken care of as well.

    Plenty of parking spaces, lots of good looking people who know they are. Management that act like your children.

    Cons

    Working under management still weening off the colleges they went to with no real life experience or people skills. Only Black and White exists but grey is optional. Bad Benefits and forget about having a Holiday Off.

    Advice to Management

    Employees under them make them shine not the other way around.

    I worked at In-Shape Health Clubs (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Free membership, and met some nice people .

    Cons

    Horrible place to work . If your not a general manager, this company favors so many and allows horrible people to run the company. I would say some were nice and not hot headed .They treat you like a low paid employee . They have you work long hours for little pay. From the time I was there I've never seen so many people quit in such a short time.

    Advice to Management

    Better off working for Retail

    Pros

    Company is growing and new opportunities exist. Company is investing to lessen growing pains. IT department has made real strides. Employees are mostly fun to work with.

    Cons

    Corporate is very unprofessional, boarding on unethical if not illegal. The way they treat employees and customers has a lot to be desired. HR is a nightmare of incompetence.

    Advice to Management

    Unprofessional behavior will catch up and bring you down.

    I worked at In-Shape Health Clubs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Free membership (for yourself only) to all clubs throughout California. 20% discount on merchandise.

    Cons

    Terrible benefits IF you qualify for them. High employee turnover.
    Pay is horrible, do not expect to see any raises higher than .025%/year (unless you become a "favorite")

    Advice to Management

    Management is very secretive and focused only on getting more and more members to sign up.
    Advise: Compensate your employees, without them you would not be getting all the membership sign ups that you are getting.
