I have been working at Incyte as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice culture and crop of people - FTE's and Contractors alike! Incyte really takes care of their employees and rewards them with outstanding benefits and lofty compensation. Typical of pharma's, drug prices can command the highest price point the market will bear and when you are the only game in town as in the case of Incyte with the remedy for a few rare blood disorders, patients and third-party payers must pay through the nose. As such, compensation packages for most workers are significantly higher than industry averages with most MD's making over $500K not including stock options. With $24 billion dollars in the bank, it's no surprise departmental budgets are bloated with zero caps on spending enabling many employees to travel lavishly to events with no restrictions to itinerary. New hires receive four weeks vacation from the get-go and for the most part few workers actually put in 40 hour weeks. Typically on Friday afternoons after 2 PM, the campus is virtually a ghost town! Incyte FTE's also get to enjoy many after hours events and parties onsite. But, hey, it's the pharma business and that's probably why pharma's tend to be public companies. Contractors can be on-boarded for years and while many may never be fortunate to become FTE's, most are happy to be there and doing the heavy lifting.

    Cons

Getting hired at Incyte can be a challenge and as such, it's almost imperative to know someone in the management ranks working here. It's fairly common for new managers to hit the desk and then refer in their former colleagues and friends who most often will get hired with little fan fare. In other words, good schmoozing skills can really pay off here!

    Advice to Management

HR could be more diligent in interviewing and screening practices to ensure it isn't nepotism that gets people in the door; but, that overall they recruit and retain the absolute best talent. Incyte is probably the only pharma in the world that doesn't drug screen or sex offender check employees and it leads one to wonder about the thoroughness of their background investigations. Good or bad, these are policies that only senior management can amend. The company should also consider including their many loyal contractors and consultants in company-sponsored activities. In conclusion, Incyte is a great organization from the perspective of FTE's, but not necessarily the best organization to stick around in if doing the heavy lifting under contract.

I have been working at Incyte full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work environment is great. The people are very friendly. And you stay busy. No down time or feeling like you have nothing to do.

    Cons

They do a lot for their employees but as a temp you feel left out of a lot of things. And its very disheartening to see new people being hiring while you are still a temporary employee.

    Advice to Management

Include all your employees in company give away and events.

I worked at Incyte (More than a year)

    Pros

Great perks, professional staff, free beverages, onsite cafe, great pipeline, lots of team work. Secure location and great neighborhood.

    Cons

Lots of work, high expectations not enough staff to support it all. some people tend to focus more on mistakes and can be a bit disheartening at times.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff, some generals should return to being soldiers. Balance delivering positive and negative feedback. Instead of trying to intimidate motivate staff thru positive reinforcement

I have been working at Incyte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, no middle management overage issues that you'll find in big pharma, opportunity to take on larger role is there as you're asked to do more here based on their current growth rate and lack of headcount. Internal promotions seem to be part of the climate.

    Cons

Tighter timelines then I have ever experienced in this industry. You are asked to do more with less.

    Advice to Management

Generally pleased. Would welcome opportunity for a remote 1/2 day to help work-life balance.

I worked at Incyte full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always considered for internal promotions, they really identified the strengths of the worker and tried to promote those. There was mutual respect and the environment fostered dedication and hard work.

    Cons

Limited company size and change in business direction caused a lot of layoffs. This would have been a great company to stick with long term, but they decided to pull out of the area where I live.
