I have been working at Independent Electric full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was ESOP company and then Ron Snow decided to get rid Dick Herds principles and adopt his philosophy of becoming and employer for the owner's benefits only and destroyed it eventually selling it. I understand the company which bought is an international company and is a good employer.

    Cons

since it has been a while I will say now you may be a number only as it is a huge company.

    Advice to Management

Give more authority to branch level and regional level.

I worked at Independent Electric full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for, with great benefits.

    Cons

They were bought out by a new distributor. It was tough to compete in Southern California but they have strong presence in Northern California and Arizona

I have been working at Independent Electric full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good branch managers, casual workplace, many of the corporate people are friendly (if you treat them politely as well!)

    Cons

Every branch processes things differently. Huge disconnect between No Cal and So Cal. A lot of the "good old boy" mentality-if you're a legacy or a friend more doors are open for you.

    Advice to Management

Let us know what's going on!

I worked at Independent Electric full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy upward progression, relatively relaxed environment, not too anal on procedures, flexible sop if you come up with better ideas.

    Cons

Busy all the time, annual inventory of thousands of products, labor and deadlines

    Pros

Has a strong reputation within the electrical distribution industry as a "can do" company.
Provides good tools and comfortable workplace for all employees. Has grown rapidly and provided opportunities for many people.

    Cons

Poor communication from top to bottom on many issues that affect most employees. Each manager runs there own shop and there is vast inconsistency on many issues from location to location.

    Advice to Management

Problems need to be dealt with in a more open manner with better communication. There seem to be a handful of select employees that exert influence simply based on the fact that the've worked their a long time, but don't have particular experience to provide the best direction to management.
