I have been working at Independent Group Home Living full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

working with the disabled you get to learn how to read people through expressions and body language. This population is the most genuine people you will ever meet.

    Cons

It is not what i had gone to school for. Other than that I love my job

I worked at Independent Group Home Living part-time

    Pros

The smiles and amazing feeling you get helping people with disabilities. The unbreakable and unconditional love you form and get from residents. Fun and rewarding activities such as outings and special events.

    Cons

Most people are not here because it is their passion. Seems like anyone can be hired and there seems to be no true requirements for the job. The coworkers make the job difficult. Also, most management is TERRIBLE.

    Advice to Management

PLEASE have more requirements for getting a job like this. The consumers are and should be the companies number one focus, which means you should be more wise as to whom you hire! Also, be more considerate and appreciative of the hardwork your employees do.

I have been working at Independent Group Home Living part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros are that the pay is really pretty good for an entry level job. And the job gives you tons of experience as an entry level person, in life and in future work. Not to mention, working with the mentally disabled really teaches you about human nature and compassion.

    Cons

The cons are that the management is terrible because of lack of training, and the employees are equally as terrible for the same reasons. The only people that stay with the company are the ones that are doing nothing with their lives and don't like to do any hard work. Everyone good either moves on or can't deal with working with lazy people or management.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any advice to management.

    Pros

Good job for those with little to no job experience. Fulfilling to be able to help those who are unable to help themselves. Great benefit package and PTO time.

    Cons

Lots of bickering between coworkers, management included. Upper management takes a while to respond to complaints of staff and then there was little to no changes made. Turn over rate overworks present employees. Lax call off system, overworks present employees. State mandated the raises as the company hadn't done so in 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the staff that you have and you won't have to worry about turnover rates. Other agencies have more competitive wages and staff are aware. Upper management could use a better more extensive training system. Professionalism in the work place means a lot when staff are already overworked and stressed. No one deserves to be yelled at when they're trying their best to do their jobs.

I worked at Independent Group Home Living full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The clients. If you like this population you will grow attached to them. A lot of extra curricular activities to get involved in. The employees who are 'good eggs' are really great people to work with.

    Cons

Benefits are terrible. No raises in over 5 years. A lot of favoritism happens on all levels. Supervision is weak on all levels. No real opportunities to grow

    Pros

The people you care for are great. You become close to them all. It's rewarding. The staff you work with become family too.

    Cons

You get mandated if the next shift doesn't show. Not enough help. Ards don't appreciate you. Pay sucks. You work holidays
