I worked at Indigo Books & Music full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

30% off books. flexible hours good student job. The only thing decent about this job is the ability to switch and change shifts between staff.

    Cons

Not enough staffing, no career growth , horrible management, underpaid in my opinion. The marketing for the company and products is bad so promotions are really annoying to promote to clients.

    Pros

    Great atmosphere and staff.
    Literature and Coffee.
    Nice employee discount.

    Cons

The same playlist every day. It sounds asinine, but after the fiftieth time it can start to get maddening.
    Inconsistent hours.

I have been working at Indigo Books & Music part-time

    Pros

Working around books and great people. You get to push yourself to perform well, but don't feel shamed if you don't have the best day. The company is about connecting with customers, and the job gives you that opportunity every day. It's fun and you absorb a lot of great info, and your reading knowledge will jump very fast.

    Cons

No cons that you wouldn't expect in a retail environment - overall, it's decent. Sometimes the hours could be better, as could the pay.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good energy.

I have been working at Indigo Books & Music part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Indigo knows how to hire their employees, and the relationships you will build there is what will make this experience great. In terms of management, I've had the pleasure of working with some of my all-time favorite supervisors who were really invested in making sure things ran smoothly, and that their employees were taken care of. Overall, in terms of a retail store, the atmosphere and sense of community at Indigo are unmatched.

    Cons

Upper management (the kind that only make occasional visits and works at head office) are not always understanding or realistic, and can be rude on some occasions. For a retail store offering minimum wage, Indigo does ask a lot from its employees and pushes sales as though you were working on commission (which you're not).
