I have been working at Indigo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This is by far one of the BEST organizations I've worked at in my career. I have worked in many organizations over the past 20+ years. I have seen it all (startup within large companies, Management Consulting, Blue Chip etc.) What struck me right away: 1) Indigo goes through a very extensive interview process. They really dig deep, looking for the right person. 2) Great culture, values, and mission - nothing beats this!...

I have been working at Indigo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Company really cares about the health and happiness of their employees. Open concept work environment is great for getting to know co workers and to work more efficiently as a team.

    Cons

Needs more efficient processes, but its a start up so hopefully those will fall into place over time

    Advice to Management

Better communication through documentation and meetings with internal/external personal that are involved in the development of new and rising processes

I have been working at Indigo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

An incredible mission with a focus on grower profitability, environmental sustainability, and consumer health. Indigo is mission-driven in a way I have not experienced before where the culture is grounded in an intense focus on the mission. Exceptional talent and incredible learning opportunities. On a daily basis I get to learn from smart people from a variety of disciplines who are willing to share their expertise...

    Cons

The culture is still in development and at potential risk as we scale. It helps that our recruiting process is designed to help us enhance culture as we scale. However, with a culture so closely linked to an intense focus on our mission, and thus the work itself, there's an increased chance of burnout. People who love a fast-paced environment, seek to constantly add value and thrive in ambiguity will love it here. People...

    Advice to Management

Don't lose track of the intangibles of culture. People want to know who they're working with and feel belonging in an organization. Working on such an important mission is an opportunity I'm grateful for but there's an informal, social aspect to culture building that we should also focus on. Lack of this social belonging will be a much more difficult thing to solve if we wait till the organization has matured and take...

    Pros

Authentic team. Mission focused. Fast paced. Flexible. Healthy dose of stress and humor.

I have been working at Indigo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - People here are highly collaborative, extremely dedicated, and most importantly, truly genuine. - Amazing employee benefits (Health/Dental/Vision for indiv. or family are great, Catered lunches are absolutely delicious) - I've never been in an environment with as much highly skilled, top tier talent. - Being part of a company that truly believes in its mission is refreshing

    Cons

    - We're growing at such a rate the current spaces are full. There are multiple new spaces being renovated right now and will open soon - which will help.

I have been working at Indigo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

We've all been jaded by a mission statement on a wall and the incongruity with how things actually get done. I have been surprised with how little difference there is at Indigo between the wall and the reality. It is well-documented how far down farmers are on the ladder of importance and Indigo is doing a staggering amount to change that. Working hard is the table stakes, and working smart while hard is what it takes...

    Cons

The timbre of employee gives off a consultant vibe. It's harder to make friends and relationships because people are so committed to their work and the mission. It is almost too professional for a late-stage startup (but over 1k employees, is that a startup?) There are few social events where cross-departmental teams can mingle, and it's only a matter of time before that manifests into political rivalry or cross-office...

    Advice to Management

Be sure to allocate enough resources, people, and cycles towards fostering a collaborative culture. At some point the focus on "getting things done" will fade and the realization that the people you work with and how the business makes decisions without a time crunch will matter more than the next product launch that benefits growers.
