I worked at Infinium Capital Management full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great culture and people that worked there. Initially great compensation and benefits. Fun and exciting place to work until employee base grew from 100 to 325.

    Cons

Management team wanted to expand and be the next Citadel. Record year in 2008 made them believe we needed to double the number of employees. Inability to recreate success from 2008 and overhead essentially caused the demise of the company. Compensation and benefits went in the tank over the last 2-3 years of existence.

    Advice to Management

Be thankful for the success that was in front of you. Sometimes hitting singles and doubles is better than hitting a grand slam.

I worked at Infinium Capital Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to start a trading career. Good technology, solid training, and access to a lot of good data.

    Cons

Management blew it. Tried to become a big boy in the trading game without the means to do it. Figured hiring a ton of developers (to do mainly nothing) would be the ticket to the big time. Instead they drowned in costs. Hired a President that had zero industry experience and paid him an exorbitant salary that anyone in the know resented.

    Advice to Management

Organic growth and building market share works better than trying to spend your way into the big game. No matter, the company folded and was sold for parts.

    Pros

Was a good place to start career. I was motivated to work hard/learn and grow my skill set throughout my time at Infinium. I do think that many leaders genuinely cared about employees.

    Cons

High-level management lacked experience/maturity. While the HF tide was rising the mentality was focused on pretending to be a larger company, this led to excessive expenses and poor hires.

I worked at Infinium Capital Management full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This place really cared about its employees. It was probably the most transparent trading firm in the city. They had semi-annual firm update meetings. Many of the employees were owners and the group leaders knew the firm financials in detail. The firm had outstanding benefits and I knew of several instances were senior management and partners gave extra bonuses out of their own shares to take care of people.

    Cons

There was a non-active partner in the business who was constantly causing distractions and took the firm's leadership focus off of making money to attempt to resolve the issue. They ultimately paid too much money to buy him out and harmed the firms capital structure in the process. The firm tried to take on too many initiatives at the same time, often being mediocre in all of them. The technology team was not organized enough and wasted money on projects where they didn't have a clear edge. The technology team needed to be managed better.

    Advice to Management

Pick a better partner. Be more focused. Get better technology talent

    Pros

    - Fair compensation
    - Good education program
    - Easy to climb the ranks if you work hard
    - At the end of the day a good group of people

    Cons

    - Very disorganized; lack of structure and consistency across the board
    - Prior management took advantage of a lot of people; created a mess
    - Current employees are paying the price
    - The Nepotism is a bit ridiculous

    Advice to Management

Your employees are the back-bone of this company; treat them well.

    Pros

When I first walked through the door I knew this was a place I wanted to work. The people were great on the trading side as well as IT.

    Cons

Well if you can use google, just type in Infinium Capital Management and you will see why they are in the shape they are in. I am not sure what happened, but management made a lot of mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and upfront with your people.

    Pros

As an engineer I was very well compensated. I got interesting work to do, and was well recognized for my achievements. Innovation was well rewarded

    Cons

Hard economic times have changed who is running the company. There are accusations that employee funds in the capital pool were pilfered by the previous management.

    Advice to Management

To the current management: be careful. The rumors I've heard are not good - it is necessary to have satisfied employees to achieve world-class performance.
