I worked at Informatica (More than a year)

    Pros

there were good people in individual groups. they were flexible in opportunities outside my group. customers were mostly pretty satisfied with the products. wide product line allowed me to present comprehensive solutions to potential clients.

    Cons

very big company, with all the attendant bureaucracy. they have a terrible vacation policy. when on-boarding, my training was virtually non-existent.

    Advice to Management

given that the vacation policy is set at the very top, my advice would be to improve the on-boarding process to better familiarize new hires with the company, its policies, where to get information, an easy to use employee information portal.

I have been working at Informatica full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Market leading data management software company with strong market presence and customer base. Solid core products and used to have good people to work with on the front lines.

    Cons

Open source software is more agile and Informatica is playing catchup in the big data world. Recent development has been stagnant and some of the tertiary software is quite buggy.

Bloated software portfolio makes it difficult to be deep enough in all opportunities. SC's need to rely on specialists. No real opportunities for advancement on the tech side.

Hasn't had any real leadership in worlwide field operations in years.

Can't trust upper management after being told repeatedly that the company wasn't going to go private. Upper management getting rich off of stock options and stock grants while everyone else fails to benefit from buyout.

Equity in the newly private company was not spread to all employees. Only offered to mid-level management and higher. Also, no retention bonuses mean that the company is bleeding experienced and successful people in sales and pre-sales.

    Advice to Management

Stop destrying the culture of Informatica by running off the people who made it what it is. A ton of tribal knowledge has already either been shown the door or left on their own. New CEO has no background other than being given a job by 'the sponsors' and there is no trust in upper management.

    Pros

Market leading data management software company with strong market presence and customer base.

    Cons

INFA is transitioning as a private company into a subscription based business model and trying to refresh it's product set to better compete with the open source vendors.

    Advice to Management

Include employees in an equity position to keep them motivated and loyal.

I have been working at Informatica full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Informatica has all the tools needed to be an effective employee
    Initial enablement is thorough
Everyone is helpful and pleasant to work with
    Pay is very competitive
So far, this company has impressed me more positively than any other where I have worked.

    Cons

So much enablement I haven't been able to work with customers (Yet!)
Can't think of any others so far

    Advice to Management

I'm pretty new. Generally I would say keep doing what you are doing. The only thing I have noticed so far is there seem to be a large number of managers. This may be because so many people have been here a long time and needed to be promoted. Also the managers seem willing to dig in and get their hands dirty so it is not necessarily a negative.

I have been working at Informatica full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depending on your role, they are flexible on work schedule. Great work/life balance. Even for remote employees, they try to loop you in to town hall events and meetings - they even stream them so you feel like you're sitting in the room! Great benies, competitive pay. Management seems interested in what you have to say.

    Cons

Time off is on an accrual basis. I came from an open time off policy where you took what you needed. However, you still get an ample amount of time in your first year. You receive more as your tenure increases. Wouldn't mind seeing a more flexible pto policy.
