I have been working at Informatica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good remote worker support and culture, very happy with the ability for employees of all levels to have a good work-life balance. HR and career development is one of the absolutely best I have seen in most companies and certainly better than all companies of their size. The products are great and there is amazing potential.

    Cons

Lots of levels of management. Would be good for some flattening to occur of layers of managers. there are too many chiefs and not enough braves. Some of the division leads and c-level execs are not great leaders often berating employees, ignoring or just plain not listening to what their teams are saying. While HR has a great leadership development program, it seems that many of the execs have not taken it to heart. Clearly for there to be growth of employees and revenue, there are a few execs that need to go.

    Advice to Management

Be more strategic. There are big bets and things that Informatica can do and should do, but we need leaders who can lead the charge and think outside the box. The company has a strange "Informatica Way" to doing things that is not respectful of the contributions of employees who would like to take things to the next level.

"Great company but poor sales and marketing leadership"

I have been working at Informatica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Excellent products, great product engineering
    Loyal customer base
Enormous market potential, well positioned as a leader in growing market
Cloud presents a huge opportunity which is exciting
Generally positive culture of people, most attempt to be good and do the right thing if they can
Informatica has continued to grow despite its problems in some key areas

    Cons

Massive turnover in sales for at least 2-3 years now, 30%-70% per year depending on region and role
Frustration in sales is pretty intense
Marketing is antiquated at best and has totally missed the boat on possibilities to expand the Informatica brand and lead the market in the new world of data. Our competition smokes us in field marketing and using innovative and fresh techniques to reach new markets and buyers.
The more industrious sales people do a lot of their own marketing, build their own contact systems and buy tools to deliver fresh messages to new markets to do what marketing has not bee able to do
The sales infrastructure is broken. The system was so broken this year in 2015 that salespeople got a standard draw in Q1 since sales operations and finance couldn't figure it out.
Sales Operations leadership is the archetype of what not to do in business, bonus and comp plans are unclear in many cases, are not well thought out and are misleading
Informatica doesn't integrate its own data well at all. Our CRM system is a mess.
Sales and marketing leadership reacts, thinks short term and cripples sales by being disruptive and desperate for quick results. Sales management does the best it can but these issues all stem from the top and in trying to accommodate so many political agendas in the company

    Advice to Management

Hopefully the privatization of Informatica is a good thing because it will give the company an opportunity to kick out the old guard and bring in new sales and marketing leadership so the company can shatter its political silos and fulfill its true potential.

    Pros

Competitive pay, awesome benefits, solid industry awarded product.

    Cons

Marketing is clueless. Senior sales leadership has its head in the sand when it comes to challenges in the Field. Ramp time is really long because training is nearly non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing for more reports and busy work and the rest of your talent will walk out the door. Support the field, don't grind them into oblivion.

I worked at Informatica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

useful products, good work environment, devoted following by the customers who have been using the products for many years in the traditional areas.

    Cons

some loss of focus due to challenging m&a activities that add too much complexity for customers and not enough value to warrant continued investments.

    Advice to Management

go back to the basics and do that really well; you have the best products in the industry and are able to deliver the right things to customers if you just listen.

I have been working at Informatica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a flexible work environment and benefits are fair/good. I've learned a lot but every accomplishment has been by sheer determination and perserverance.

    Cons

People do not work together, cross organizations or cross department. There is a mindset to only focus on your quarterly goals not the goals of the organization or company. There are multiple teams working on the same deliverables and no communication or alignment. It may be a different experience if you work at headquarters - but in this day and age a company should be better skilled at engaging, supporting and including remote employees.

    Advice to Management

Bring together teams to focus on corporate objectives. Help to establish clear roles, responsibilites and hand-offs. Communicate regularly on top initiatives - what they are and how an organization supports or is responsible for these.
Invest in better systems and tools to help employees do their jobs.

    Pros

Big company, good name on resume

    Cons

Treat contractors like crap, pretty cut-and-dry culture, not very interesting if you're non-tech or non-engineer

    Advice to Management
