I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers, very nice managers. Pay isn't terrible. Promotion from within is possible.

    Cons

The benefits stink! Have had nothing but trouble with the company that manages benefits. They never seem to get faxes that are sent to them, insurance is very costly, yet doesn't seem to cover anything. Nothing but headaches, when it comes to trying to get anything fixed , whether it be with medical or dental insurance, or flexible spending... Save yourself a lot of headaches and money... Don't get the insurance.
As far as the bakery department goes, they expect a lot of work done in a very small amount of time. If sales are down, hours are cut dramatically, but the expectation to continue to keep the same amount of product on shelves is still there. As with most places, much is done by a few, while some employees slack and get away with it.
Management has no idea of time needed to complete certain tasks, so they have a hard time understanding what a reasonable expectation is.

    Advice to Management

Spend some time in the satilite departments, and get an understanding of the time needed to do each task. When hours must be cut, be reasonable with it, and lower the expectations to fit into the time allowed for each employee.

    Pros

The ingles deli has great quality food and a high standard of their employees. Working in the deli gives you the chance to get a lot of great recipes

    Cons

Requesting off can often be very difficult, if not impossible. Morning shift has to be in very early as well.

    Advice to Management

    Better training for new employees

I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Opportunity for advancement is there. Hard work is usually rewarded.

    Cons

Low pay and constantly expecting more work. Favoritism is a problem. Management is constantly changing within the departments and stores.

    Advice to Management

There are people in management that should not be there. They are protected by higher ups and it makes it difficult for average employees to respect them.

I worked at Ingles Markets part-time

    Pros

This position teaches you an amazing amount of customer service skills to be used on and off the sales floor

    Cons

In retail, there will always be unappreciative customers that will criticize you and make your job harder every once in a while

    Advice to Management

Improve turnover rate of the sales floor so that people don't have to be trained over and over again

I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Environment is what you make it. If your friendly & outgoing most coworkers will be. Somewhat flexible schedule, depending on manager. Great experience building job.

    Cons

Hard to get pay raises. Indecisive pay scale, they bring in new inexperienced workers at higher pay than older more experience ones. Department heads don't have control of departments, store manager does, therefore dept. Heads cant reprimand lazy employees or reward hard working ones. Old school systems. Works every single holiday. Not family oriented .

    Advice to Management

Pay scale off experience & service, not just to get people in the door. Take care of the hardworking employees & don't baby the lazy ones. Give dept heads more authority on hiring & firing. Update systems, could save on payroll if all departments could inventory & schedule electronically. Rotate holidays off for employees so the same employees aren't working every single holiday, it would help moral

I worked at Ingles Markets part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Close to my house

    Cons

    Some bad managers
Managers at corporate offices seem to call more of the shots than they should (worked in floral, managers over floral would dictate how much we would be sent in flowers then blame us for not selling more than our stores could handle)

    Advice to Management

Listen to those working in special departments like floral, not everything needs to be uniform
